The AMEE annual conference is the leading international meeting on education in the healthcare professions. AMEE 2018 includes a new ‘Surgery Track’ which brings together all activities related to surgical education and simulation in surgical education during the AMEE Conference. The surgery education track addresses best practices and the latest research findings in curriculum development and design, educational strategies, teaching & learning methods, assessment, and faculty development in the education of surgery-related competencies with a focus on undergraduate education, postgraduate (residency) education and continuing professional development (CPD) across all surgical subspecialties. The track will also address best practices and the latest research findings in the development, design, application, and assessment of simulation in the field of surgical skills education and training as well as the development of simulation teachers/trainers. New AO Foundation Awards for 2018 To mark its 60th anniversary in 2018 and considering its roots in Switzerland and Basel, the AO Foundation will sponsor four awards during the Surgery Track to the value of GBP 1,000 each for: • Best Short Communication on Surgery Education • Best Short Communication on Simulation in Surgery Education • Best Poster on Surgery Education • Best Poster on Simulation in Surgery Education Classed as the cultural capital of Switzerland, Basel is a striking town, with beautiful medieval buildings spread along the banks of the Rhine, and a thriving art scene with around 40 museums.
