NEWS RELEASE December 1, 2010 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE New and modernized bus system will launch December 13, 2010 THOMPSON, MB – The City of Thompson will be holding a public breakfast meeting on Friday, December 3, 2010 at 8:30 am in the Adventure’s North Dining Room at the Mystery Lake Hotel to provide information on the implementation of Thompson’s new and modernized public transit system that will launch on Monday, December 13. The modernized system consists of two new buses circulating two routes within the city. Thompson residents will experience a new level of service, as there will be an increase in stop frequency, cross-town and direct routes, and extended operating hours for weekday and weekend travel. Each of the two new 30 ft, diesel powered buses feature seating for up to 29 people, handrails for standing passengers, wheelchair-accessibility, three security cameras, bike racks and air conditioning. “The modernization of Thompson’s bus system will help people more efficiently connect to work, school, healthcare facilities and other amenities within the city,” said City Manager Randy Patrick. “It will increase the City of Thompson’s competitiveness for economic development opportunities and increase the mobility of residents.” New Transit System: Two routes designed to hit the major collector stops Two buses will circle the city in opposite directions Wheelchair-accessible and bike racks More direct service to the high school, malls, and additional stops at the hospital and Rotary Place Six-day-a-week service on both routes Real-time route information by calling 677-0880 Additional bus shelters will be added in Spring 2011 Please visit thompson.ca or facebook/cityofthompson for route, schedule and rate information. -30- On behalf of the City of Thompson, contact: Tammy Lee Marche, BullMarket Consulting Ltd. 204.679.5436 [email protected]

The City of Thompson is the third largest city in Manitoba and home to a diverse population of 13,446 people. Known as the Hub of the North, Thompson is the regional trade and service centre of northern Manitoba, representing an additional 36,000 – 65,000 Manitobans.
