A warm welcome to everyone attending the annual 2018 Parish Dinner/Dance and for sharing and remembering the blessings of the important year gone by during which we all witnessed the construction of the new St. Basil Church. Keep in your remembrance the great joy that we shared during this historic year. St. Basil Greek Orthodox Church is centrally located in the very heart of downtown New Haven and now with a new and beautiful church building. Parishioners have responded so much with generous donations that have enabled our church to install a beautiful iconostasis and icons, chandeliers, proper lighting, chairs, and candle stands. The beautiful new church we now have should not be an end in itself, but must become the inspiration for our greater participation in the liturgical and sacramental life of the church that will lead us to the deepening of our faith and life in our blessed Lord Jesus Christ. The words of Psalm 127 referring to the building of Solomon’s Temple apply to the building of our church as well, “Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.” This year’s Dinner Banquet and Year Book are expressions of the tremendous support many have given to St. Basil Greek Orthodox Church in New Haven. We thank all who participated in this historic 2018 YEARBOOK and all who attended the Dinner Banquet, as well as all who continue with their dedication and support for the New Haven St. Basil Church. All of the businesses who continue to donate and support St. Basil in various ways are herewith gratefully acknowledged. The construction of our new Church started on April 22,2015 and was completed in June of2017 . Amiracle, that happened in a little over a year.
The result is magnificent, an 8,800 sf complex that includes the St. Basil Greek Church, the NewHaven Greek Community Cultural Center and 130 spac€s parking lot, all in the center ofdowntownNew Filaven.
Our prime location is in the center of the triangle consisting of the Knights of Columbus WorldHeadquarters, the Yale Medical School, and the New Haven train station. It is in the point wherethe Highways # 91 and # 95 meet.
The value of our property increased dramatically the last 5 years, with all the development that istaking place downtown New Haven.The crossing of Orange Street South to the train station will become our new east border.Three new buildings are under construction directly across from our properly west of the Princebuilding, and another two on Congress and Lafayette streets.
.Above all the demolition of all the dilapidated buildings that are adjacent to our property willcreate a new seven acres development with high tech research facilities among others.After the demolition of all those building we will be able to see the fain Sation from ourproperly.
These beautiful prospects, allow for our community to grow, and meet all the needs of thegenerations to come, but above all create the financial means to do so.
Our next goals are:rlconography of the interior of the Church; New Pews and the Upgr*deof the Community llall.
These Goals will be also achieved, if all of us work together for the good of our Community.
