State Fair Swine: ALL State Fair eligible swine MUST have the special DNA punch tag that comes from the State 4-H Office. Ear notches are required for ALL state fair swine since the DNA tags are not yet approved as official USDA tags

Final Beef Project Meeting is scheduled for June 7th, 2016 at Iowa State University
Meats Lab.
Beef Exhibitors will meet at the Extension Office at 9:30am. Kayla Hyett and Beef Superintendents will provide rides to youth, pending parent’s permission.

to attend and if you need a ride.

Market Lamb Community Barn Program Application Due April 15!
Any current 4-H’er interested in showing a lamb but does not have the facility and/or the adult to help is
invited to apply for the Market Lamb Community Barn Program! If you would like more information, please

FSQA Testing & Training Information:
LAST SCHEDULED TIME APPROACHING
All youth exhibiting beef, dairy (cattle and goat), meat goat, rabbit, poultry, sheep, & swine animals at the Greene County Fair and Iowa State Fair MUST attend a training or test out (if able) to become certified in the 4-H FSQA program.
FINAL Testing Date Tuesday, April 19 @ 3:00-5:00pm

2016 Organization Dog Meeting Scheduled!

Come learn about the 2016 training schedule and fundraising activities. Officer Jack Williams will be in attendance to talk about how to train a police dog!
Weekly Dog Meetings will begin on April 24 at 4:00pm at the Greene County Fairgrounds.
2016 Omaha Zoo Trip
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to sleep near wild animals? 5th and 6th grade 4-H members from five counties (Boone, Greene, Hardin, Marshall & Story)
are invited to participate in a campout at the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha, Nebraska on Friday, June 3rd through
Saturday, June 4th. 4-H’ers will sleep near the animals and experience the zoo in a fun new way! In the Lozier IMAX
Theater they watch on a screen as tall as four giraffes and as wide as seven rhinos and listen on six speakers that
each weigh as much as a Siberian Tiger. You won’t want to miss this! For registration information, please contact

Youth Gardening Workshop
May 14, 2016
Youth, in 4th-7th grade, will learn the proper gardening techniques and will get a chance to put their newly learned skills to the test by planting outside of the
Extension Office.
Youth, in 8th-12th grade, will have the opportunity to do a landscaping project. These youth will meet prior to
May 14th to discuss landscaping designs with the Master Gardeners.

or organization who has personally been involved with his/her organization in contributing to, promoting, developing curriculum, or supporting the 4 H program.
o A public servant/elected official who has made a difference to the 4-H program.

4-H Apalooza
Are you looking for ideas or inspiration for exhibits ideas to show at the county fair? Well, look no further!
Join us for a fun filled afternoon on Saturday, April 30th and be inspired. 4-H-Apalooza is an afternoon of mini-project workshops that can help youth in grades 4th -6th
find ideas for exhibits or find some inspiration.
The afternoon will start with how to set a good goal. Participants can choose which workshops that they
want to attend. We have a variety of workshops to choose from including music, herbs, robotics,
photography, art, elements and principles of design, sewing, citizenship and much more! In the evening, we
will have dinner and a movie.
4-H-Apalooza is on Saturday, April 30th at Seven Oaks (1086 222nd Drive, Boone, IA 50036). Check in starts
at 12:30 pm and the event will end after the movie around 8:00 pm.
Pre-registration is required.
Many workshops are limited to 20 participants so register early!
The cost for this event is $15/member for dinner, movie and project workshop materials. For more information,

Make sure you are attending the required 5 club meeting! The rule in the fair book currently
reads:
All re-enrolling 4-H’ers must attend a minimum of FIVE club meetings to be eligible for the Greene County Fair. This rule is not meant to penalize new 4-H’ers that join throughout the year. If new members join after April 1st, prior approval from Extension Staff will be needed to determine meeting requirements to be eligible for the Greene County Fair.

Iowa Pork Youth Industry Tour Coming Soon!
Youth ages 16 to high school seniors graduating this spring are invited to consider participating in the Iowa
Pork Producers Association's Iowa Pork Youth Industry Tour in June.
Youth participants who have a strong interest in the
swine industry and are willing to learn and be an industry "agvocate" will tour the state and explore different facets of the pork industry for four days;
June 20-23.
"The IPPA Youth Committee is geared toward providing young swineenthusiasts with educational
opportunities beyond the classroom that allow them to broaden their horizons," said IPPA Consumer
Outreach Director Shawnie Wagner. "The tour is designed to show participants the wide range of employment opportunities associated with pork production and spark interest in pork careers."
Tour plans are still being developed, but the tentative schedule includes visits to Archer Daniels Midland in
Des Moines, Iowa Select Farms in Iowa Falls and Iowa State University.
Interested youth must complete and submit the
application form to IPPA by May 1.

Other requirements include a short essay explaining the reasons for wanting to participate and three letters of recommendation. IPPA is charging $250 for each
participant, payable after acceptance.

April Shooting Sports Meeting
All new and past members and their guardians need to complete a wavier form before they participate each year. Waivers can be found at the Extension Office or at the next club meeting. The next Shooting Sports meeting will be held on Thursday, April 21st. The group will meet at the Extension Office at 5:00pm. Depending on weather the club leaders will transport youth to The Fort Dodge Gun Club or if is nice the group will meet at Slininger Woods. If weather becomes a problem, Extension Staff will notify families by sending a 4-H Online e-mail to families and by creating a Greene County 4-H Facebook notification. If you are still unsure, please call the Extension Office by 4:30pm to check on the weather update.
The 4-H Re-enrollment deadline was due November 17th! $25 late fee is now in effect!

Scholarships
The Greene County 4-H Foundation makes scholarships available each year to all 4-H members who participate in pre-approved 4-H trips, camps, and conferences at any
level. Members are able to utilize one scholarship per 4-H year. These scholarships are possible thanks to numerous generous donations, as well as proceeds from the Clover
Café. Contact the Extension Office if you would like to utilize a scholarship.

The Iowa 4-H Foundation and the Greene County 4-H Foundation both provide funds for youth needing
financial assistance to participate in the 4-H program. Families needing help with enrollment fees or camp or
