After all, it does not hurt to experience something new once in a while, does it?) - We will sing as many of the favorite hymns you have listed as we can. This will include songs from the United Methodist hymnal, from “The Faith We Sing” and probably other sources. - The sermon style will be different. We will do a form of sermon-Bible study so I invite you to bring your Bibles to church with you (what a radical idea!). We will study the story of King David from 1 and 2 Samuel and 1 and 2 Kings. Each week I will provide you with the scriptures to be used for the coming Sunday and ask you to read and study them. Then if you have questions or comments about the scripture, if you would e-mail those to me by Tuesday of that week I will try to incorporate at least some of those into the sermon. I will not be using Power Point for these sermons. It has been many years since I didn’t depend on Power Point for my sermons on a regular basis, but I’m going to give it a go and see how I do. That will be my part - your part is to read the scripture for the week, give it some consideration and e-mail me if you have questions or comments to share. - Children’s Sunday School will be held during the worship service. Sherry Wade has agreed to be the teacher and she will be using Veggie Tales (which are just terri- fic). So that’s the summer worship changes. For now, just enjoy God’s wonderful and beautiful gift of spring! A sure sign of His love for us. Grace and peace, Nancy “Sharing the Love for Jesus Christ by Serving Others”

The Christian Outreach Program of Elkhorn (COPE) helps individuals like Frank who was in his late 50’s. Medical issues were affecting not only his health, but his finances as well. He could no longer work so his family relied on his pension and his wife’s job to make ends meet. With their decreased income, they had no room for emergencies or high utility bills. Facing the possibility of having to choose between the medications Frank needed or keeping their heat on, they humbly requested help from COPE. COPE was able to help Frank pay a significant part of his OPPD bill so that he could purchase the medications he needed. Frank and his family were also provided food. Frank and his wife came to COPE feeling desperate and left with smiles on their faces. You can help COPE and people like Frank who live right here in western Douglas County. If you shop at Amazon, start your shopping at www.smile.amazon.com and select Christian Outreach of Elkhorn as your charity of choice and donate a portion of your shopping to COPE each time you order. If you’d like to help COPE in other ways, just let me know. Paul Dritley, 402.681.3666 or [email protected].

Vacation Bible School: We are starting the planning stages for VBS! This year’s theme is Cave Quest! It will be held June 26-June 30 from 6:00-8:30pm. If you are interested in helping please contact Ashley Bossert at 701-212-8934. Out in the Narthex you will see people from the VBS committee set up ready to take down your names and looking for help with donations! If you are able to help please stop by this table! We appreciate all your help with making VBS a great success!

The month of May will bring exciting activities for the kiddos of Elkhorn Hills Preschool!

We will be having 25 kiddos graduating and moving on to Kindergarten on May 13! This

is such a heartwarming time of year for us. We love seeing how the children start with us

when they are 3 (some younger) years old and grow through the years and move on to

bigger and better things in their lives. We see most of them every day and we love these

children and love teaching them life skills to move on to Kindergarten!

MISSIONS Box Tops for Education and Campbell’s Labels for Learning

Have you been collecting Box Tops for Education and/or Labels for Learning? If so, we are asking that you bring these to church within the next couple of weeks. The Labels for Learning program is being discontinued and we need to get the labels collected by Elkhorn Hills’ members sent in no later than May 22. Our Box tops and Labels are sent to Epworth Village in York, Nebraska. Epworth is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing hope and help to youth and families across the state. Epworth seeks to serve God by providing opportunities for success in a dedicated secure, loving environment. They offer a wide range of services to children and families with emotional and/or behavioral disor-ders. To learn more visit www. Epworthvillage.org.

So . . . gather up all of the labels that you have stashed in the kitchen and drop them off in the collection center in the narthex. We’ll make sure that they are sent to Epworth to help with the services they provide. Thank you for all that you do!

MAY MISSION OF THE MONTH - 'GARDEN OF HOPE' The Mission Committee has paid rent on church garden plot No. 25. We have a volunteer who will plant tomato plants and cucumber seeds/plants. We are asking for volunteers to weed the tomato plants and water the plot (if needed). Also, if you have grass clippings that you can bring to the plot, they will help hold the weeds down. At harvest time the tomatoes and cucumbers will be donated to the Open Door Mission/Sienna Francis House. May’s YES meal will be delivered on Monday, May 23. Our main dish will be delicious chicken tenders with ranch dressing. To accompany this, we are in need of the following: 4 tubs of store-bought potato salad; Fresh fruit (a bag of halos, grapes, apples, etc.); 4 people to bring a 9 x 13 pan of some type dessert bars. If you can help, please contact LuAnn Dritley at 402.689.1083or [email protected]. Thank you.

It’s Springtime and young man’s fancy turns to…. Wait a minute! I just realized that I can’t even pretend To remember what a young man might be fancying.

I know what I’m really enjoying - the fact that I can now go outside without a hat, coat, gloves, or having to zip anything up.

Of course, a hat would blow away to South Dakota right now, anyway.

But, there is always something to be thankful for. It feels so good to just walk outside and feel really good.

Try it, you’ll like it.

ANNUAL CHURCH GARAGE SALE

August. 17 (church member presale), 18 - 19- 20 Open to the Public

As you are SPRING CLEANING, remember items you are no longer using or need can be donated to our garage sale. Items to be in good and working order, clothing should be clean, stain free and not torn. So start gathering your unused treasurers for the church garage sale. Unfortunately, we cannot accept any child safety items such as car seats or baby cribs. We are, also, unable to accept large appliances such as washers and dryers or the older ‘tube’ type TV’s. We currently have a garage at Dino’s for your donated furniture storage only. If you have furniture items for the sale you wish to donate before August, visit with Sandy Lozier and she will try to make arrangements to get the furniture to Dino’s. Sandy cell # 402-201-6792
