Dear Parent

This will be the last newsletter for the term. It has been another school term packed with academic work, sport and cultural activities, and I am sure that learners and teachers alike are looking forward to the September holiday. However, for those learners who have not done well during these exams/tests, they must use some of the holiday time to revise the weaker areas of their school work. Remember : growth mindset – with enough effort and positive attitude you will master it. The matrics, especially, must use their time wisely over the holiday period as they start writing their finals in just over a month!! The teachers have done all they can to prepare you, it is now up to you to produce the results you are capable of. Wishing all a relaxing and safe holiday break, and looking forward to seeing all back next term, determined to give of their best in the final stretch.

Tafelberg is a Section 21 fee-paying school, and the SA Schools Act thus places a duty on the SGB to collect such school fees from all parents as agreed upon at the parent AGM. The Budget and school fees for 2019 were voted on at the parent AGM on 7 November 2018. The Budget, school fee increase and certain policies (e.g. Code of Conduct, Uniform and Appearance, Language, Religious, and Admission policies among others) were tabled and accepted by a majority vote of parents at the AGM.

GENERAL NEWS 1. Matric exams 2019 (NSC)

Please take note of the the following excerpt from WCED Circular 24/2019 : “Principals are to inform all candidates writing the NSC examinations that they must wear their school uniforms when writing each examination and that they must be available until the last day of the school term (04 December 2019) in case it should be necessary, for whatever reason, to reschedule the writing of a particular examination paper.” The issue of wearing the correct school uniform, however, is not only for matrics during exam/test times. Please ensure that when your son/daughter leaves home in the mornings they conform with the uniform and appearance rules of the school. Your support and co-operation is appreciated. 2. Copy paper

Once again I appeal to those parents who have not met their commitment, and have not sent in the ream of copy paper (as per the stationery list sent to all parents in December 2018). Please ensure that your child has handed in the copy paper for Term 3. To those parents who sent in all 4 reams at the start of the year, thank you for your support and co-operation, and thus enabling your child the best access to a quality education. 3. Term Reports

Term 3 academic Reports will be handed to all learners on the last day of the term. Due to the administrative process, Reports will not be handed out before Friday 20 September. Please note that should a learner not be at school, his/her report will be handed to them on the first day they are back at school next term. 4. PTA

We are in the final stretch, and want to close the year on a high. We still have a way to go before we reach our 2019 target, so please help us make the upcoming Warrior Challenge a massive success. Please ensure your son/daughter is at school on the day (it is a compulsory school day) and that they take part. All the learners had great fun last year. However, to emulate the success of 2018, we need all the children at school and participating in the event. Please use your Makro and MySchool cards when making purchases, and ensure that Tafelberg school is the beneficiary. 5. Wheel-clamping

A serious injury to one of our junior learners was narrowly averted last week, because a driver did not heed the request not to park in the road in front of the foyer. Fortunately, I was outside at the time and alerted the driver. On numerous occasions in this Newsletter I have asked parents/visitors not to park in the roadway, and to heed the signs to park in the designated parking area. Therefore, we will clamp any vehicle that disregards our safety measures, and levy a R200 lease fee as per our policy. Please use the designated parking if you enter the school grounds in a vehicle. Let us obey the rules and keep all our children safe. Thank you for your understanding.

7. Reminders

Parent AGM on 13 November 2019 in the school hall @ 7pm

All sport is finished for the term. Learners must wear the proper winter uniform each day - no tracksuits / sports kit to be worn on Fridays.

Please adhere to the road traffic laws and safety rules of the school to ensure the safety of all children, staff and members of the public. Furthermore, please use the drop and go zone properly and responsibly.
