14 June 2018
Dear Parents,
This term has been an extremely busy one for us at Emmanuel, but it has been one
in which we have been able to demonstrate how well we work together as a team –
students, teachers and parents. Thank you to the many parents who speak so
positively about our school and the care that the staff take of the children each and
every day.
In the last few weeks I have been interviewing many families who are seeking
enrolment for Prep in 2019 at our school. Many of these families have spoken about
the fine reputation our school holds in the community as well as the
recommendations that our current and past families have given them about
Emmanuel being a nurturing community. It is wonderful to hear how some of these
families have ‘family friends’ at the school and they are impressed by what they have
been told about Emmanuel.
Whenever our students are on excursions or represent our school out in the
community, we receive wonderful feedback about our children’s behaviour and
manners. They really do stand out as articulate and polite children. It is always
heartening to receive so many generous affirmations from our families, be it in
relation to the safety of the children or the dedication of the teachers to providing
engaging learning opportunities. The staff are very appreciative of the support that
you give to them and the partnership that they have in working with you to build this
wonderful Emmanuel community. I hope that you are as proud to be a part of this
community as we are.
My appreciation and thanks to you as parents, for your valuable role as the primary
educators of your child and to the staff, a dedicated team of professionals who give
so generously of their self, their skills and their time.
Wishing you every blessing for the coming week,
Geraldine Rostirolla (Principal)

SEVEN WONDERS – A REFLECTION
A group of primary school children were asked to list
what they thought were the "Seven Wonders Of The
World." Though there were some disagreements, the
following choices received the most votes:
1. Egyptian Pyramids
2. Great Wall of China
3. Christ the Redeemer Statue
4. Machu Picchu
5. Taj Mahal
6. The Colosseum
7. Stonehenge
While collecting the votes, the teacher noticed that one
student was still working on her paper. She asked the
girl if she was having trouble with her list. The girl
replied, "Yes, a little bit. I can't quite make up my mind
because there are so many."
The teacher said, "Well, tell us what you have, and
maybe we can help you."
The girl slowly read "I think the "Seven Wonders Of The
World" are:
1. To see
2. To hear
3. To touch
4. To taste
5. To feel
6. To laugh
7. To love

hand or bought by man.”

ALL ABOUT EMMANUEL Sr Noelene’s recent visit has inspired a new Emmanuel themed newsletter item, which will allow us to share our story and describe our identity. It will be a great way for us to recall school history and celebrate belonging to this wonderful community. Be sure to look for it each week.
SACRAMENTAL PROGRAMS This weekend our parish family will gather with Bishop
Michael McCarthy to celebrate the Sacrament of
Confirmation. Please pray for the students involved in
the programs as they complete their preparations and
receive the sacrament. All classes have been praying
for the large number of Emmanuel students who will be
Confirmed. It should be a weekend of wonderful
celebrations.
Students preparing for
Confirmation through the St
Joseph’s Parish are
reminded to attend a
practice for the
Confirmation Ceremony
tomorrow, Friday 15 June,
at 3:30pm.
PREP LITURGY The Prep Liturgy that was to be celebrated on Tuesday
26 June has been postponed. New date to be advised.
PEER SUPPORT Last Friday our Peer Support activities focused on
choices. Students worked together to identify kind and
unkind choices and investigate how words and actions
can affect others. They enjoyed playing the ‘KINDNESS
is a CHOICE’ board game.
Tomorrow’s activities will
encourage students to appreciate
acts of kindness and to pass
kindness on to others.
VIRTUE OF THE
FORTNIGHT –
CONSIDERATION “A little consideration, a little thought of others,
makes all the difference.” (Eeyore - A. A. Milne)
Consideration is being thoughtful about other people. It
is thinking about how your words and actions affect
them and caring about how they feel. It is paying
attention to what other people like and don’t like and
doing things that give them happiness.

another.” (Unknown)

NAIDOC WEEK
During the second week of the school holidays (6 – 13 July), the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community will celebrate NAIDOC week. NAIDOC week is an annual celebration that is held across Australia during the month of July. It celebrates the unique history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and is celebrated by all Australians. Each year a theme is chosen to help celebrate NAIDOC Week. This year’s theme is ‘Because of Her, We Can’. The 2018 theme proudly acknowledges and honours the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women who have and continue to make invaluable contributions to our communities, our families, our rich history and our nation. www.naidoc.org.au How can we celebrate NAIDOC in our school community?

The following students were awarded book prizes for their creativity in last week’s Book Fair Competition. Congratulations to the many students who participated in this competition as all of your artwork contributed to making the library come alive for Book Week. It is wonderful to see so many families taking this opportunity to add to their home libraries, and reinforcing the value and importance of reading. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Ms Turner for her hard work in preparing and co-ordinating the Book Fair. RUGBY LEAGUE
Yesterday saw the final of the 2018 John Paap
Interschool Rugby League Competition. Emmanuel took
on their closest rivals, North View State School. The
team knew it was going to be a tough game as cross-
fence bragging rights were up for grabs. It was a
fantastic match however on the final whistle Emmanuel
went down 18 to 16. Congratulations to every student
for their talent and skill shown, as well as the way they
played each and every game. A big thank you goes to
Mr Battaia for all his time and effort supporting the team
this year.
High Jump Nominations
In accordance with the Australian Track & Field Coaches Association it is a requirement that all primary school students participate in high jump using the Scissor technique. Provision will only be made for the Fosbury Flop technique if a letter by a certified coach accompanies the student before the day of competition. This letter must include the Coach’s name and contact number and when the instruction took place. Any queries may be directed to Mr Cureton Emmanuel HPE Teacher via the office.
