CV & Portfolio
Nevber Öztürk
From working in practice and my time at university, I have learnt the significance of several aspects of design; including sustainability, communication skills, attention to detail and teamwork. People have always featured strongly in my work, whether designing a school, a drop-in centre or a house, the client(s)’ needs have been the main driver. I believe that, sustainability and people are intrinsically linked and should always be at the forefront of the design process.
From working at Zaha Hadid Architects, Ash Sakula Architects and Fiona Brooke and Partners, I am convinced of the importance of teamwork and taking the initiative in the workplace. From the project manager to myself as an intern, each role plays a significant part in the completion of a project. My time in practice (and at university) has also further developed my knowledge of AutoCAD, Rhino, Revit, Microstation, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Flash, SketchUp, and ArchiCad software.
With past experience in working both in a team and individually, being able to adapt to different working situations would not faze me. Being social secretary for the Architects Lectures Society at the University of Nottingham, I am
experienced with organising events and people. I enjoy getting involved and getting the most out of my time. Other examples of teamwork include being a member of Article 25 (disaster relief), taking part in both Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award Schemes and singing in the choir.
A design firm is one that relies strongly on the creative abilities of its individuals and these abilities can be illustrated outside my coursework by my being part of the Song Writing Society at university and the choir throughout school, life drawing and creating a performing arts production. This aspect of work is one that is highly pleasurable and fulfilling and naturally comes through in my time spent in practice.
As well as adaptability and creativity, strong organisation and diligence feature in my work philosophy: challenges are enjoyable and allow for the boundaries to be pushed. In addition to the skills that I can bring I am also eager to see what a firm can teach me. This is one of the aspects of the job that interests me most and I am constantly reading around the subject and attending exhibitions, talks and lectures in order to gain a greater insight into the infinite depths of the construction industry.

h The Body & Space: An Urban Remedy
The diploma design thesis was based on mental health and the urban environment and resulted in the design of a drop-in centre for those suffering from depression. Studies into the effects of our surrounding characteristics on our behaviour informed the spaces in terms of materiality, light and programme.
The centre was located in the dense city site of Lisson Grove, City of Westminster, London.

h Furze Down School: The ‘Colony’
Following on from the animation, a design for an SEN school in Winslow, Buckinghamshire ensued. The school was a real client which we visited and communicated with to discuss the brief. The design that our group finally presented was based on the idea of an ant colony due to the way that ants build communities and work for the good of one another. Our focus was on Key Stage 4 and Post 16 students as these are the year groups that begin to integrate with the wider community.
The forms produced had their roots in fractal geometry and the circular classrooms aimed to fuel creativity.
