CCA was selected by Department of Justice, Office of the Federal Detention Trustee, to construct/own/operate the detention center (up to 20-year contract)

1,072 bed, $80 million facility

120-acre parcel located along East Mesquite Ave

Construction: fall 2008; opening in 4th quarter 2009.

Hiring beginning approx. six months prior to opening. Construction jobs beginning in Fall 2008

U.S. Marshals Service offenders:

Detention facility will house individuals who have been charged with a federal offense but have not yet been sentenced or are going through court process.

Inmates usually serve between 60-180 days (average 3 months)are sentenced in their area of jurisdiction

Nevada Southern Detention Center cannot become a prison without a vote of the Nye County Commission

4 CCA facilities are primarily USMS and numerous others hold USMS inmates

More than 7,000 USMS inmates are in CCA’s system

Federal population is nearly half of CCA’s business
