Dennis R. Ford discovered photography while traveling through the beautiful city of Prague, Czech Republic in 1996. He was inspired to capture the history and essence of this city through the medium of photogra-phy. Using composition and creativity to guide him, the resulting photographs show a talent, and more importantly; that photography is a means to express his creativity.

He has exhibited numerous times on the Central Coast of California, and in juried selections in Los Angeles, CA, Fort Collins, CO, and in New Orleans, LA, and his photographs have been published in Black & White Magazine, in Camera Arts Magazine, and recently, in Photographers Forum Magazine, Best of Photography 2009 hardcover book.

Dennis’ photographic expression is largely influenced by the modern ab-stract paintings of Georgia O’ Keeffe, the abstract illustrations of Eyvind Earle, the 20th century photography of Ansel Adams and Edward Weston, and contemporary black and white photog-raphers, Michael Kenna, Rolfe Horn, and Roman Lornac. His expression is representative of these artists, It is subtle, yet, evokes a straightforward, minimalist style.

Dennis gravitates to natural and man- made phenomena that are created by light and shadows, wet surfaces, mir-rored images and/or those items that ap-pear to be incongruous to their natural surroundings. He is particularly fond of imagery, which has symbolic meaning. The meaning may be found in an ab-stract representation, it might be found in metaphoric representation or it might be simply direct in its representation.

Dennis and his wife, Marna, live on the central coast of California. He has two adult daughters. He is employed as a Principal Scientist for a major Environ-mental Consulting firm.

The title of this portfolio, Soigne´ refers to that which

is elegant, sleek and sophisticated. The selected im-

ages are of landscapes, city scenes and architecture

that were gathered from my excursions throughout

the United States and Europe. Each image is meant to

capture in its entirety, a sense of the particular locale in

a simple, yet elegant way.
