NetHawk M5 Multi-Analyzer

INTRODUCTIONNetHawk M5 is a powerful protocol analysis platform with intelligent data analysis applications for effective testing, troubleshooting and development of today’s complex multitechnology networks closely following the network technology development.

NetHawk M5 is designed for high capacity and performance monitoring environments where multiple users can simultaneously perform analysis. NetHawk M5 features real-time correlated multitechnology call and session tracing, LTE user-plane session and flow analysis, key performance indicator (KPI) generation, quality of service (QoS) measurements as well objective voice quality analysis−all with drill-down to last detail protocol decodings. CDRs and KPIs can be stored to database for further statistical processing. Especially in LTE environments, NetHawk M5 makes it easy to analyze signaling and user-plane data correlated from LTE air and open interfaces with dedicated data capture instruments and analysis applications.

PRODUCT PLATFORMNetHawk M5 consists of an analysis software with optional protocol decoding packages and applications as well as of interface adapters designed for standard PCs. With this approach, NetHawk M5 is the most flexible tool to meet various requirements.

With full configuration in a desktop or a rackmount PC, NetHawk M5 can monitor in real-time multiple STM-1/OC-3, STM-4/OC-12, E1/T1/J1 and Ethernet interfaces simultaneously. It is also available as a laptop solution suitable for smaller configurations or when portability is an issue.

High-speed IP networks bring a new challenge as terabytes of data need to be analyzed. With the new NetHawk iPro capture appliance, 100 % of traffic can be captured to storage from up to 10 Gigabit Ethernet interfaces or then analyzed to show only the most interesting parts of the data.

For multi-user analyzer systems, NetHawk M5 is available as NetHawk M5 Sampo, which allows multiple users from different locations to access independently the same source of data in real time. With NetHawk M5 Sampo it is possible to reduce costs through reduced travelling and centralized server hardware.

NetHawk M5 can also analyze PCAP or CAP files from third-party tools without any extra conversion.

MARKET-LEADING USER INTERFACE DESIGNNetHawk M5 3.0 features a completely new GUI design, deploying the latest technology for ease of use, performance and advanced applications. Familiar Windows® Vista look, adjustable views and new functions make the NetHawk M5 an even more powerful troubleshooting tool.

MULTITECHNOLOGY SUPPORTNetHawk M5 provides LTE, IMS, UTRAN (HSPA, WCDMA, TD-SCDMA), GERAN (GSM/GPRS/EDGE), CS/PS core and GAN analysis capabilities, all combined in one tool. NetHawk M5 keeps up with the latest development in the network technology to enable voice-over-IP and multimedia services offering. 3GPP releases are supported from Rel99 up to Rel9, and vendor-specific versions are widely supported. NetHawk M5 also supports LTE NAS, IPSec, Iub and Gb decipherings. In UTRAN and GERAN, NetHawk M5 can also capture air interface traffic correlated with signaling from RAN and core, allowing for effective end-to-end testing.

DETAILED-LEVEL PROTOCOL DECODINGWith the protocol monitoring application, transactions can be analyzed to the last detail with different analysis views. Message sequence chart allows clear analysis of message flows. Single-line decoding view gives a good overall view by showing event information and protocol content in one line. Full signaling is available in detailed decoding view. Protocol messages are correlated between the views so it is easy to switch analysis to a differerent view.

CALL AND SESSION ANALYSISThe Call and Session Analysis application is a key troubleshooting tool. The calls can be closely monitored in real time as they evolve over LTE S1, X2 and EPC, Iub, Iu-CS, Iu-PS, Abis, A, A+, Ater, Gb, Gn, Gs, Gi, ISUP, MAP, CAP, INAP, Mc, Nb-over-IP, Nc, GAN Up, SIP and Diameter interfaces as well as air interface in UTRAN/GERAN. With Call and Session Analysis, users can quickly see if there are any problems. Full details of the call are easily available. Plus, analyzing user-plane data of an interesting LTE session is simple—with only one click, all QoS values can be seen in a graph or the related IP flows.

LTE USER-PLANE SESSION AND FLOW ANALYSISNetHawk’s User-Plane Analyzer is a superior tool for exploring the network traffic in converged IP-based networks. It can be used to seek any kind of information from network traffic via versatile snapshots in selected time frame efficiently from MySQL database.

Users can also analyze individual IP flows with information of source and destination IP addresses, ports, protocols, locations and origins, throughput and amount of transferred data values also in tunnelled flows. While an interesting flow can be drilled-down to Protocol Monitor application for detailed level signaling analysis, ready charts for top talkers, transmission and application protocols, etc., will help users see what is really happening in a network. Advanced QoS and KPI graphs include charts and diagrams for traffic distribution and throughput per individual or aggregated flows and sessions.

STATISTICAL ANALYSIS ON KPIS AND QOS COUNTERSNetwork Statistics provide essential information on the overall performance of the network. Transactions are traced from the Iub, Iu-CS, Iu-PS, Abis, A, Gb, MAP and ISUP interfaces and stored to a database. The transaction counters, KPIs and the distribution of failures by reason are then visualized in graphics. With IP QoS application, the QoS level in the network can effectively be determined based on accurate delay, throughput, jitter, packet count and packet loss measurements with signaling information included at all IP-based interfaces.

VOICE QUALITY ANALYSISObjective voice quality analysis is based on SwissQual’s ITU-T P.563 like NINA+ algorithm for narrow-band speech. Several parameters are included in the analysis and MOS-LQO value gives an instant evaluation on the sound quality. Speech of interesting CS calls from Iub, Iu-CS, SIP, Abis, A or Ater interface can also be recorded (.wav) or listened to directly from a PC’s loudspeakers.

CAPACITYNetHawk M5 can monitor (simultaneously and alternatively) up to six full-duplex STM-1/OC-3 links, three STM-4/OC-12 links, 32 bidirectional E1/T1/J1 links or twelve Ethernet links. Different NetHawk adapter combinations are possible for a best fit in different monitoring environments.

OPEN INTERFACE FOR REMOTE CONTROL APPLICATIONSNetHawk Remote Control API (RCA) provides an open interface to the NetHawk M5 allowing development of remote control applications. NetHawk RCA also makes it possible to build an automated testing system where multiple NetHawk M5 act as a building block and control a LAN.
