Shoulder JointShoulder Joint
All of the nerves that traveldown the arm pass throughthe axilla (the armpit) justunder the shoulder joint.

All of the nerves that travel to the hand cross the wrist.

The radial nerve runs along thethumb-side edge of the forearm.
It wraps around the end of the
radius bone toward the back of thehand.
It gives sensation to the back ofthe hand from the thumb to the
third finger. It also goes to the back of the
thumb and just beyond the mainknuckle of the back surface of thering and middle fingers.

Wrist JointWrist Joint
The median nerve travelsthrough a tunnel within the
wrist called the carpal tunnel.
The median nerve givessensation to the palm sides ofthe thumb, index finger, longfinger, and half of the ring
finger.
It also sends a nerve branch tocontrol the thenar muscles ofthe thumb.

The ulnar nerve travels through aseparate tunnel, called Guyon'scanal.
This tunnel is formed by twocarpal bones (thepisiform andhamate), and the ligament thatconnects them.
After passing through the canal, the ulnar nerve branches out to
supply feeling to the little fingerand half the ring finger.
Branches of this nerve also supplythe small muscles in the palm andthe muscle that pulls the thumbtoward the palm.

Arteries of theArteries of the ShoulderShoulder
Traveling along with the
nerves are the large vessels
that supply the arm with
blood.
The large axillary artery
travels through the axilla.
The axillary artery has
many smaller branches thatsupply blood to different
parts of the shoulder.
The shoulder has a very
rich blood supply.

Arteries of theArteries of the ElbowElbow
Traveling along with thenerves are the large vessels
that supply the arm with
blood.
The largest artery is thebrachial arterythat travels
across the front crease of
the elbow.
The brachial artery splits
into two branchesjust belowthe elbow: the ulnar artery
and the radial arterythat
continue into the hand.

Arteries ofArteries of the Wristthe Wrist
Traveling along with the nerves are the large vessels thatsupply the hand with blood.
The largest artery is the radial arterythat travels across the
front of the wrist, closest to the thumb.
The radial artery is where the pulse is taken in the wrist.

Arteries ofArteries of the Wristthe Wrist
The ulnar arteryruns next to the ulnar nerve throughGuyon's canal .
The ulnar and radial arteries arch together within the palm of
the hand, supplying the front of the hand and fingers.
