It’s been 40 years since we opened our first store on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. We’ve grown quite a lot

since then. Today J.McLaughlin stores are located where you live, work and play – 114 locations in 25 states.

We still consider ourselves a neighborhood spot. We’re just down the street, ready for you to pop

by and say hello.

This spring we took a trip to Boca Grande for a little time off. The location, a unique mix of Old Florida charm

and low-key beach culture, is a favorite of co-founder Kevin McLaughlin and his family. Our latest collection,

filled with linen dresses, Americana stripes and sport-minded pieces, fit in perfectly with the scenery.

A backdrop of whitewashed docks, pastel golf carts and manicured croquet courts complimented the

aesthetic we’ve been fine-tuning since 1977 – classic, colorful, a tad whimsical, and always approachable.

This secluded coast once attracted Rockefellers,

Vanderbilts, and even Thomas Edison. For generations each family came to slow down and enjoy the laid-back

quirkiness of this balmy paradise. Our co-founder Kevin McLaughlin and his family have been coming

to the area, specifically Boca Grande, for years.

“My kids learned to swim in the ocean here and I taught my daughter Madeline how to drive a golf cart

along Banyan Street. We’ve spent many holidays, birthdays and anniversaries making memories

and discovering something new along the way.”

Pick up a pail and while away the hours by gathering seashells along Blind Pass Beach on Sanibel Island.

Spend a night (or two) at The Gasparilla Inn in Boca Grande. Experience the historic charm of this resort, originally founded in 1913 as an escape for Northerners. Tradition still runs deep here, from the Grecian columns to the old school dinner dress code.

Come in from the sun for a visit to the Artis in Naples, home of the Baker Museum and the Naples Philharmonic. The Baker Museum, the foremost fine arts destination in South Florida, houses a well-edited collection from some of the world’s most prominent artists.

Sail away on a cocktail cruise to Cabbage Key (just off Gasparilla Island) and check out Widden’s Marina on the way back. In the 20’s the marina was also a well known nightspot. All that has changed now but not the flavor and old fashioned hospitality of this “Old Florida” establishment.
