Edgewood Community Mural
Led by muralists Amber Hansen, Nicholas Ward and assistant muralist
Jafiya Birdling All in My Neighborhood is an imaginative,
collaborative, mural that explores the rich cultural roots, daily life
and future aspirations of the Edgewood community.
Project collaborators include Edgewood neighborhood residents,
LDCHA staff, and Full Circle Youth Program. Special thanks goes to
the project coordinators Chris Lempa, Mary Orem and to Doug and
his team for their help installing the panels.

Resident Services needs a new Office Assistant!
Resident Services is hiring a temporary, part-time office assistant. This is a 28-hour a week position that pays minimum wage ($7.25/hr) and will
last up to 9 weeks. If you have been
* out of the workforce most of this year (i.e. you are unemployed,
raising a family, or you were in school) AND
* having trouble transitioning into an office / desk job
… then this position may be perfect for you. Applicants must have firm
employment goals and a commitment to gain knowledge of filing systems and front-office protocol, have an ability to maintain strict confidentiality

November Employment Workshop: College Planning Spring For 2016
Are you interested in going to college in the spring? Want to find out how
to get through school with the smallest amount of student loan debt pos-sible? Come and join Steven to learn about college planning for next se-
mester, including what intersession classes are and when they are of-fered, how much community college tuition costs versus KU’s tuition and
online school’s tuition. This workshop will be held on Tuesday, November 10th from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at RSO (1600 Haskell #187)

HOMEOWNERSHIP
The Homeownership Program has seen a lot of action these last few weeks.
There have been THREE Homeownership Program graduate families! The Asuku
family will be enjoying their brand new Habitat for Humanity home starting this
month! Myrna and her family moved into their Tenants to Homeowners
home last month.
Krystle and her family purchased on the open market in
Tonganoxie, Kansas. Not only is it a wonderful experience to purchase
a home, but with the Homeownership Program Matching Grant Fund, the purchaser can receive
up to $3,000 based on your savings!

Music For The People Beginners as well as orchestra members are welcome to jam with KU grad stu-
dents Kolby and Kroy. Every Thursday they will be leading improve percussion

Pumpkin Pie Cookie Dough Log
Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups pure pumpkin puree
1 tsp pumpkin pie spice
1 Tbs sweetener
2 big Tbs of almond or peanut butter
1/2 cup flour (whole wheat or
coconut) (Optional: Protein Powder)
Directions:
Puree first 3 ingredients
Add nut butter and puree again until smooth
Once fully mixed, form into a log shape and wrap
plastic wrap around (like a sausage casing) and
freeze for 1 hour or until firm but not frozen
Remove from freezer and roll in sugar free mini choco-
late chips or whatever else you like (pumpkin seeds,
nuts).
Store in freezer. This will become solid in freezer so plan
on thawing before serving.
Prep time: 10 mins
Cook time: 1 hour
Serves: Many
Holiday cooking does not have to difficult or unhealthy. The recipe on this page is an inter-
esting twist on pumpkin pie. Best of all it contains no added sugar. The recipe on the back
page is for a stuffing recipe that was served at last year’s RSO Thanksgiving Potluck.
Both recipes can be made in advance and are kid-friendly.

Early Childhood Drum Circle The early childhood drum circle is a free event for newborns—5 year olds at the Toy Store. Come join percussionists and other families as they play music during these interactive sessions. No previous experience is necessary. MEDICARE PART C AND D ENROLLMENT
Each year, you have a chance to make changes to your Medicare Advantage or Medicare prescription drug coverage for the following year. The enrollment pe-riod this fall is October 15 - December 7. If you have questions about enrollment you can access a SHICK volunteer near you during the enrollment period. SHICK (Senior Health Insurance Counseling for Kansas ) is a free program offering Kan-sans an opportunity to talk with trained, community volunteers and get answers to questions about Medicare and other insurance issues.
During the enrollment period you may change from original Medicare to a Medi-care Advantage Plan, change from an Advantage Plan back to the original Medi-care, switch from one Advantage Plan to another, change your prescription drug coverage within the Advantage Plan or join a Medicare Prescription drug plan and more. Ingredients:
3 large yukon gold potatoes, grated
1 large sweet potato, grated
1 tsp salt
2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
4 large celery stalks, chopped
1 medium onion, chopped
3 small carrots, sliced
8-10 cooked chestnuts, chopped
1 medium size granny smith apple,
diced
1 garlic clove, minced
4 large sage leaves, chopped
¼ tsp salt (or to taste)
2 cups vegetable broth

Two– Potato, Apple & Chestnut Stuffing
Prep Time: 30 mins Cook Time: 1 hour 45 mins Serves: 6-8
Directions:
1. Place grated potatoes on a colander over a bowl. Add one teaspoon
of salt and toss well. Set aside for 20 to 30 minutes to drain some of
the water out (you can also let them sit in the fridge overnight)
2. Preheat oven to 350F. Coat a 3x9x13 inch baking dish with cooking
spray
3. In a large non stick skillet or a soup pot, heat olive oil. Add potatoes,
celery, onions, chestnuts, apples, garlic, sage and salt. Toss well and
cook at medium heat for 10-12 minutes, until the vegetables are ten-
der
4. Transfer to a prepared baking dish, pour vegetable broth over and
bake, uncovered, for an hour and a half. Broil for 2-3 minutes until
golden brown.
