NEWSLETTER for clients & families MAY 2019 Welcome to our new newsletter! Welcome to the first edition of the client and family newsletter for 2019. Our newsletters are for sharing things that are happening in the organisation such as important information, stories about you and good news! Consumer Forums Consumer Forums give clients an opportunity to discuss matters of interest, raise complaints and suggestions about service delivery, staff and any other issues. They are a place where clients can speak up and have their say. All Possability clients are invited to come along and have heir voices heard. The forums are held in each region. They are run by a consumer representative with the help of Speak Out, an independent advocacy group. Dates for upcoming forums are listed below: Meet the Consumer Representative Peter lives in Southern Tasmania. He passes on all the ideas and information from the Consumer Forums to the Possability Board of Directors. Young Achievers Make FinalsCongratulations to finalists in the 2019 Tasmanian Young Achiever Awards. The awards celebrate young people in Tasmania achieving great things in the community and reaching their goals. The winners will be announced at a special awards ceremony on Friday 31 May 2019.

Two Oakdale Training partipants have been nominated for the Colony 47 Transition to Work Award. This is an award for young people who are working to create a better future for themselves.

Finalist Dylan Wagner had a goal of opening his own gardening business. With support and training he built the different skills he needed and has started his business!

Semi-finalist Dylan Pace and gained confidence and skills in an area he is passionate about, sports! Dylan volunteers as a sports mentor for young people living with autism.

Staff member Karita Casimaty is a finalist for the TADPAC Print Service to the Disability Sector Award, an award for young people making a difference in disability services. Karita’s initiatives

include leading the Duke of Edinburgh International Award Program and taking creative approaches in teaching literacy programs.

Possability welcomes the establishment of a Royal Commission into the abuse and neglect of people with disability.

CEO Drew Beswick said the Royal Commission was an important opportunity for people with disability to have their experiences listened to and help make disability services better.

“We take violence, neglect and abuse incredibly seriously and hope that the Royal Commission will generate some real outcomes for the rights and safety of people with disability.”
