    We have started Neem movement in1987 in Bangladesh. Unfortunately thedevastating floods destroyed the wholeplantation in 1988. The movement has

    again started in 1989 and moving verysmoothly.

    policy to plant 5% Neem of allgovernment tree plantation activities.Department Forest and Department of

    Agricultural Extension ( DAE) hasdeveloped Neem nurseries for their ownplantation.

    Bangladesh Neem Foundation (BNF), an apex

    body of all related organizations and personsinvolved in research and development hasbuilt collaborative partnership with- BCSIR,BFRI, Bangladesh Tea Research Institute

    (BTRI) for research on pesticides, fertilizersand cosmetics.

    BNF has also partnership withBangladesh Rural AdvancementCommittee (BRAC), the largest tea estatein Asia for nursery development,

    BNF has so far distributed 2.6 million Neemsaplings from their own nursery and have 409associate members all over the country andhas transferred primary technologies to 9600farmers and they are doing well. Neembecame important cash crop to the farmers.

    BNF has developed research partnership withBangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) andhas developed Neem based pesticides andfertilizers. The products are being limited usein nursery sectors, tea estate, field crops andmedicinal plants cultivations. They haveresearch and collaborative partnership withBSCIR,BFRI,BTRI, and BAU.

    BNF has so far developed 39 Neem basedformulations and transferred to NeemLaboratories (Pvt.) Ltd and Neem KimyaLaboratories ( www.neembd.com ,www.neemkimya.com ). The products areavailable in the domestic market and exportingto Japan. Neem based products are becomingpopular in the country.

    BNF is developing supply chain in the countryboth raw materials and finished goods with theexperience of a partnership project of Food andAgricultural Organization( FAO) of the UnitedNations, Common Fund For Commodities( CFC)of Netherlands, International Centre forIntegrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD),Nepal and the Ministry of Commerce,Government of Bangladesh.

    So far our knowledge, nine patents have

    been registered and five are underprocess. There are 93 trade marks havebeen applied and under process of

    registration.
