Standard (or Simple) versus Intelligent

• There is still a need for the standard “lead acid replacement” type of battery.

• A “standard” lithium battery will still have a Battery Management System (BMS) circuit board inside to monitor safety criteria.

• But “S” (standard) versions will not have communications capability (no cables).

• “I” (intelligent) versions will have CANBus or SMBus communications interface capability (with cables).

11

Page 12: NECES Commercial Overview wjs2

• Intelligent ALMs allow monitoring and management of battery capabilities

• Smart Battery compatible operations with NEC extensions

• Robust, industry-standard CANBus or SMBus communications

• Capabilities include:– Battery voltage and current– Relative state of charge (SOC)– Cell voltage and temperatures– Programmable thresholds for remaining

capacity, time, charging– Alarm and fault monitoring

• ALM batteries can be connected in series and in parallel with no additional control circuitry required– Up to four batteries in series and up to ten in parallel (4S10P)

• No external BMS required – Built-in electronics manages battery arrays

– Cell monitoring and balancing

– Protection against over charge & discharge, over temperature and short circuits.

Multiple System Operators (MSO)

Li-Ion replacement of Lead Acid• Reduced service calls• Longer service life• Decreased weight• Decreased space• Double the run time

15

ALM 12V35 batteries are ideal for the 36V Remote Cabinet installations of MSOs (TV Cable Companies) in either pole mount or ground mount environmentally uncontrolled enclosures.
