    Te Master o Science in Management - Healthcare Administration - Online

    (MSHA) program will provide you with a well-rounded management degree inhealthcare administration and prepare you or uture opportunities in various

    healthcare institutions, hospitals, and long-term care acilities. Our students come

    rom a variety o healthcare backgrounds: nurses, physicians, technicians and

    administrators (CFOs and CIOs). You will examine topics such as managerial

    Te MSHA online program consists o nine courses or a total o 36 credit hours. You

    can complete the program in less than two years. You will take two online, seven-week

    New England Colleges Master o Science in Management - Healthcare

    Administration - Online program is a specialized degree or healthcare

    proessionals who want to advance to more senior management roles. Te

    curriculum will challenge students to identiy and overcome obstacles to strategic

    thinking, develop a ramework or creating strategic solutions, and acquire the

    leadership skills that contribute to managing change and uncertainty in healthcare

    organizations and their environments.

    You will acquire the knowledge and skills, in leadership and managerial approaches

    to marketing, economics, project management, and nance, to successully lead a

    healthcare organization. In addition to exploring the business aspects o healthcare

    administration, strategies or taking account o human aspects such as ethics,cultural diversity, negotiation and conict resolution, and leadership styles are also

    examined. NECs goal is to provide the healthcare industry with graduates who

    understand the big picture in this growing sector.

    A great institution to consider if you want to get an online

    advanced degree. Every class touched on something that was

    helpful to me in at least some way. It helped to open my eyes

    to better management ideas and skills and provided me with

    information to make me a better person, manager and help my

    staff improve themselves as well.

    The structure of this program kept me interested and wanting

    to work and I enjoyed working with all of the students and NEC

    faculty and staff I have come into contact with along the way. My

    Te Master o Science in Management - Healthcare Administration

    - Online program consists o nine courses or a total o 36 credit hours.

    You will begin the program with core courses and then progress into

    concentration courses that ocus on your area o interest. At the end o the

    program, you will use the skills learned within the program in a practical

    problem-solving Capstone Project.

    Below is a listing o the core courses, concentration courses, and the

    Capstone project:

    Organization Management and Leadership 4 credits

    Tis course combines theory and practice by encouraging students to

    learn traditional and contemporary leadership theories and apply them in

    analyzing the behavior o leaders, colleagues, and subordinates. Trough

    a variety o readings, cases, and exercises, students will examine eective

    leadership models. opics include the evolution o leadership; the roles o

    strategy and vision in transormational change; the development o leaders;

    the leadership responsibilities o creating eective teams, organizations,

    and cultures; the exploration o dierent leadership styles; and current

    popular approaches to leadership theory.

    Managing Projects in Organizations 4 credits

    Tis course denes the terminology o project management, and describes

    the stages o the project lie cycle. Students are introduced to the

    underlying principles and various techniques or managing new programs

    and projects. Tis course presents an overview o managing a project rom

    start to nish. Students will examine project organizational structure, work

    breakdown, scheduling, budgeting, costing, resource allocation, and human

    resource considerations throughout the project process. opics include

    the management o human resources and team building; planning and

    control; scope management; time and cost management; quality and risk

    management; and technical tools, including GAN and PER charting.

    Issues in Ethics or Healthcare 4 credits

    Tis course explores and analyzes the interrelationships among

    stakeholders in the healthcare industry. Te moral implications o the

    healthcare organization and its decisions are explored with respect to their

    social eects, and to the tension that exists between achieving desirable

    outcomes and attending to the means by which they are achieved.

    opics include theories o morality; analysis o ethical decision-making;

    interaction and confict among personal, proessional, and organizational

    values; the eect o cultural diversity on individual and group values;

    current issues; and the impact o ethical considerations on healthcare

    organizations. Te roles o individual and collective choice in the

    management o competitive environments and organizational positions on

    contemporary moral issues are also examined.

    Managerial Accounting and Finance or Leadership 4 credits

    Tis course equips students to more eectively and ethically lead and

    infuence in situations where nancial issues play a key role, with

    particular attention to public scal management. Tis course serves as an

    introduction to the concepts and principles o nancial management and

    managerial accounting, ocusing on the development and use o budgets

    or planning and control, demonstrating accountability, and establishing

    priorities within an organization. Students will explore the tools and

    techniques available to maximize the use o scarce resources, and the

    implications o public unding and cost accounting or programs and

    initiatives within the organization.

    Strategic Planning and Policy or Healthcare 4 credits

    Tis course will examine the process o strategic planning. Organizations

    are undergoing a series o revolutionary changes, including vertical

    integration, horizontal consolidation, strategic alliances and joint ventures,

    entrepreneurial startups, and development o specialized niche networks.

    Tis course will critically examine these changes, and discuss the various

    strategic decisions and managerial skills needed to conront them in a

    variety o orms in organizations. Te primary ocus o the course is on

    the strategy o the business unit - which is the oundational level or

    competitive analysis - and an analysis o the issues central to the rms

    short-term and long-term competitive success. Using a combination o

    case studies and industry eld research, students will assume the roles

    o key decision-makers and/or advisors in analyzing these issues and

    oering recommendations or strategic change.

    Managerial Economics or Healthcare 4 credits

    Tis course develops the students capacity to analyze the economic

    environment in which a healthcare organization operates. Te ocus is

    on understanding the constraints the environment places on its goals,

    and how these constraints may change with time. Students learn how to

    apply economic reasoning to internal decision-making and public policy

    issues aecting the healthcare sector. Students will examine a variety o

    skills required in managing healthcare organizations in light o economic

    realities, including activity-based costing, cost estimation, relevant costs,

    and pricing policies.

    Marketing Management in Healthcare and Service 4 credits

    Tis course introduces undamental marketing principles and

    dierentiates issues specic to service industries, health organizations,

    and undraising structures. Students will develop a oundational

    knowledge o marketing concepts and practices, marketing decision-

    making and techniques, and sources o nancial support and strategies

    or their development. Focus is on practical application o marketing

    knowledge and skills in healthcare and service environments.

    Organizational Communications, Confict Resolution and Negotiations

    4 credits

    Tis course explores the psychological contract in the many orms

    possible among individuals and groups, rom the perspective o exercising

    leadership in the management o these relationships. Students study

    group ormation and development, as well as the intricacies o coaching,

    mentoring, and confict resolution. Te impact o organizational behavior

    on leadership eectiveness is explored. Organizational communication,

    including ormal and inormal communication, is analyzed to determine

    the relationship between communication and organizational satisaction

    and eectiveness. opics include preparing or a negotiation; understanding

    individual preerences; identiying ethical and cross-cultural issues; and

    determining when and how to util ize available outside resources. Students

    assess the importance o coaching and open communication when

    inspiring individuals to overcome barriers to peak perormance.

    Masters Capstone Project 4 credits

    In this summative course in the program, each student will undertake

    a major investigation o a signicant leadership and management

    challenge. Students propose either a public policy initiative or an

    organizational change or innovation that is responsive to an issue they

    have identied. In the process o researching the problem and proposing

    an evidence-based solution or improvement, students integrate principles,

    theories, and methods learned in required program courses.

    Students may enroll in a non-credit sel-study Proposal Development

    course, whenever and as oten as they wish. Te Proposal Development

    course guides them in writing an approvable proposal. Once the proposal

    is approved and students have completed all other courses in their

    program, they may enroll in the Capstone course. During this nal

    course in the program, students will gather and analyze their research,

    and create a viable strategic plan or implementing their project.
