As the “Experts in the Game and Business of Golf” the power of education is the single most im-portant way to help enhance and transform our industry. Many of today’s thriving industries out-side of the golf industry have alluded to the fact that there is a strong correlation between the eco-nomic viability of an industry and its education attained by those who work in it.
The current MSR cycle is roughly 16 months away from coming to a close and it is a priority of the Section to provide meaningful educational opportunities for you to meet these requirements. To review your current MSR status, please go to www.pgalinks.com and login. Under “your member-ship data” will be your current credits earned and what is still required.
To receive MSR’s for your Player Development Program, please complete the “MSR Report Form” and submit it to Nebraska Section Player Development Coordinator, Joe Canny, PGA at [email protected] or by fax 402-489-1785.

2014: The Year of the Junior Golfer
Where PGA Professionals represent the experts in the game and business of golf, the youth represent the future of the game and business of golf. Through Golf 2.0 we’ve learned about this great population of golfers who have expressed an interest in playing. In that study one of every five who responded with that interest were junior golfers. This market represents a total population of 27 million and an opportunity to influence much more as kids bring the families with them.
When non-golfing youth and lapsed youth golfers were asked “What are your most important reasons for not golfing/not golfing more,” their number one answer was I don’t think golf will be fun / didn’t like golf. This response came from 49% of lapsed youth golfers and 78% of those who have never tried. For these reasons golf must employ tactics used successfully by tennis, soccer and other team sports.
As the Professionals of the Nebraska PGA Section you are uniquely positioned to deliver these top notch youth programs that will secure golf’s future while influencing today’s bottom line as well. Below are four opportunities to get your junior golfers involved at your facility and in the Section.
PGA Sports Academy
The PGA Sports Academy is a fun and systematic approach to growing junior golf with you, the PGA Instructor, at the forefront. The program was developed using best practices from across the country while incorporating elements of other suc-cessful youth activations such as soccer, karate, team sports and more. The PGA Sports Academy can serve as a new “turn-key” solution for a junior program or simply provide your existing program with added value through new techniques, games, near golf experiences and resources.
The PGA Sports Academy consists of three levels where kids complete workbooks to graduate to the next level. The workbooks contain drills, games, skill assessments and other programming to keep them engaged in golf even when not at your camp. These books focus on five key areas of learning. They are Fitness & Nutrition, Golf Skill Development, Sportsmanship, Golf & Near-Golf Experiences and Golf & Physical Assessments.
Drive, Chip & Putt
In an effort to promote interest and participation in the game of golf, the Masters Tournament Founda-tion, United States Golf Association (USGA) and The PGA of America created the Drive, Chip and Putt Championship, a free, nationwide junior skills competition which concludes at Augusta National Golf Club. With 2013 serving as the pilot year, the program was launched in 19 states and Washing-ton D.C. with 88 winners competing in the National Championship played at Augusta National Golf Club Sunday prior to the start of the 2014 Masters Tournament and broadcast live on Golf Channel.
For 2014 The Nebraska Golf Association and Nebraska PGA Section will host three 2014 Drive, Chip and Putt Local Qualifiers and one Sub-Regional. Participants in the Drive, Chip and Putt Champion-ship will advance through local and regional qualifiers conducted throughout the United States. Competitors will be comprised of boys and girls ages 7-15, and they will compete in separate divi-sions in four age categories. The regional champions in each of the boys and girls divisions from the four age categories will advance to the finals to be held at Augusta National the Sunday before the 2015 Masters Tournament.
Local Qualifiers: Highlands Golf Course, Lincoln – June 7th Eagle Run Golf Course, Papillion – June 28th Riverside Golf Club, Grand Island – July 11th Sub-Regional Qualifier: Eagle Run Golf Course, Papillion – August 16th

Drive, Chip & Putt presents a great opportunity for Nebraska Section PGA Professionals to engage existing, lapsed and new junior golfers. Along with the three sites above the Nebraska PGA Section will market all surrounding PGA Facilities as Official Drive, Chip & Putt warm-up zones for kids to practice the morning of the event as the driving range will be closed. Registration opens April 6th so get a jump on the public and have your kids ready!
NJGT TEAM GOLF
With the goal to drive new golfers and incremental revenue to PGA Facilities in the Nebraska Section, The Junior Golf Committee & Nebraska Junior Golf Tour staff created NJGT TEAM GOLF. The pro-gram serves as an introduction to competitive golf. With the goal of a fun, social atmosphere; team golf hopes to grow the game through events tailor made for the new and beginning level junior golfer. Golfers 7-11 years of age for boys and 7-13 for girls will compete with their friends on teams repre-senting their host golf club, school, local youth organization and more with PGA Professionals serv-ing as Head Coaches.
Highlights of Nebraska TEAM GOLF include:
Scramble format which matches two player from each team against an opposing team
Points scoring system to remove fear of showing stroke scores
Ability to caddy and substitute in for fellow team members allowing golfers to play any number of holes
Team jerseys featuring TEAM GOLF logo, individual numbers like other sport uniforms and the ability for kids to customize the back with their names, team mascot and more
Guidelines instead of Rules of Golf to make the game fun while addressing pace of play
Examples include out-of-bounds drop zones, ability to place your ball out of the bunker and an 8-stroke maximum on each hole
Nebraska PGA Professionals positioned as Head Coaches
Weekly competitions at PGA Facilities across the Section
Season-long standings where the top 16 teams make the Championship
TEAM GOLF Championship a day-long round robin with the winner receiving the TEAM GOLF Championship Belt
The program is designed allowing only PGA Professionals and Apprentices to serve as Coaches. This helps us drive youth to PGA Professionals and their facilities. The NJGT Staff will administer and run the entire program leaving golf professionals to do what they do best – teach, create golfers and drive revenue to all areas of the golf facility! Nebraska Junior Golf Tour
Now in its fifth year, The Nebraska Junior Golf Tour is bigger and better than ever! In 2014 the NJGT will offer over 45 playing opportunities culminating with a season-ending NJGT Champion-ship at The Prairie Club in Valentine, Nebraska. Events are spread throughout the entire Section with an increased emphasis in 2014 on the Northeast and Central areas of the section.
The goal of the Nebraska Junior Golf Tour is to provide your junior golfers with a fun and affordable summer experience above and beyond anything else nationwide. Each junior is treated like a tour star and provided the opportunity to compete against and meet fellow junior golfers from all over our great Section. By en-couraging your junior golfers to compete you keep them engaged all summer long, satisfy youth’s de-sire to compete and drive business toward your junior and instructional programs.
If you have any questions about junior golf programming or looking for assistance with your existing junior golf activations, please reach out to your Nebraska PGA Section Junior Golf Director Joe Can-ny, PGA ([email protected]).

EXECUTION
The above picture shows a driving range in the middle of Tokyo, Japan. Many of Japan’s golfers utilize the
driving range as their only means of playing. How many time do you hear, “I was hitting it so well on the
range and once I got on the course “it” left me”! Many of these so-called “range-players” cannot execute
when it comes time to test their game on the course. Obviously, so many variables enter into their inability to
execute. I am not going to write about those variables as my ability to discern the causes may be way off base.
Where do you stand in your readiness as the golf season of 2014 is approaching? Have you planned, prepared
and put into motion some new and exciting changes for this year? All the good intentions, all the laid out plans
are meaningless without execution. The plan you have must be realistic. Do not try to do too much without the
proper resources (dollars, staff, time, etc.) but do SOMETHING! Status quo is not what your board, owner,
superior is looking for out of you. I dare bet they are looking for someone who can provide leadership; some-
one who can execute and deliver results.
One area you can help me in my execution is by completing the 2014 PGA Compensation Survey. The five
sections I cover usually rank very high in completing this survey- why change that for 2014?!? Honestly, this
tool is so valuable for me and for you! I have a plan when I meet or talk with an employer and that is to make
the job I post the best I can financially for you. The more data available for each category of the survey makes
the survey that much more legitimate and valuable for me and for you. I have had the privilege of spending
time with some of you going over this survey and assisting you as you get ready to meet with your owner,
board, etc., to show them the compensation figures. PLEASE do your part as a PGA member/apprentice and
fill this survey out today! Complete this survey by March 23 and receive 2 MSR! You are helping me in the
EXECUTION of my plan! THANK YOU!!|

2014 Compensation Survey Live on PGALinks.com
Your participation is requested in helping to ensure that one of our Association's most powerful employment tools remains effective for you and your fellow PGA Professionals. Your participation is the key to producing compensation data that is valid and meaningful. Please consider the following points when contemplating filling out the survey: • The survey data is completely confidential - individual information cannot be accessed • The survey contains vital information to help your brother and sister PGA Professionals in their negotiations for higher compensation • The Compensation Reports are important for the Employment Consultants as they meet with employers in the effort to drive up compensation • 100% participation is possible only if you take the time necessary to be involved! Typically, our higher wage earners do not participate which can drive the results down. • Our goal in the Nebraska section is to significantly increase participation this year! • Each member has until March 23, 2014 to complete the survey and will receive 2 MSR's. Thank you for your support of this very important Association survey! Click here to complete the 2014 PGA Compensation Survey.

The Ladies Professional Golf Association is proud to announce the 2014 launch of a new
instructional course designed to help all golf profes-sionals better understand “how to” teach golf to
women so we can inspire and encourage more women to learn the game.
Because of the traditionally male-dominated culture in golf, the majority of the teaching methods
currently in use in the golf industry were de-veloped by male golf professionals based on their
experiences teaching male students or based on models of the swings of male touring profes-sionals.
There has been little research conducted within the golf industry on whether or not these methods
are the same ones that should be used for women, or whether these methods should be adjusted
when working with women. However, research in other sports and in other fields suggests that
women can benefit from gender-specific modification to instructional techniques.
The purpose of this online course is to address this need. Because women may communicate,
interpret and digest information that is presented to them during a golf lesson differently from men,
the LPGA would like to educate golf professionals about how to comfortably and successful-ly
teach the game of golf to women.
Using the LPGA Integrated Performance System, the LPGA has developed a personalized format
for teaching women, which recognizes and addresses that each female golfer is unique in their
physical capabilities, their equipment needs and their reasons for wanting to play the game.
The LPGA Integrated Performance System follows an overall student-centered model to guide
instructors through an individual lesson to a rel-atively new golfer. Teacher and student together
discover the process for creating desirable outcomes.
Course Overview
The LPGA Teaching HER Course consists of (4) one hour online modules with knowledge
checks and interactive video segments
The course fee for the four (4) one-hour online instruction modules is $395
