The NEA 2 project follows on from NEA 1

NEA1 had 11 partners from Wales, Ireland, Cornwall, Britanny, Galicia and Northern Portugal.

The project focused on watersports tourism with the main focus in Cornwall on running the Interceltic Watersports Festival which ran for a week in August 2006.

The NEA 1 project found that in a combined 30,000km of coastline, the Atlantic Area regions have:

An estimated 2.5 million people engaged in marine activities

Over 100 million tourists per year are attracted to the whole area

NEA 2: Aims and Objectives

With the new focus of the EU Commission on growth and jobs, NEA 2 has a harder economic/environmental focus than NEA 1.

The project builds on the raised profile of marine leisure in the Atlantic Area.

It aims to foster marine leisure business innovation, build skills, improve environmental credentials and include the socially excluded in the Marine Leisure Industry in the Atlantic Area.
