Focus your mind and increase your range of motion to help support overall physical development. Participants will be introduced to basic yoga poses in a relaxed atmosphere. Great for sporty kids who need variation in their training schedules or for those who want to stay active.

Youth on WeightsNDCC Weight Room

Topics in this 4.5 hour workshop will include proper set up of strength and cardio machines, gym etiquette and exercise tips on how to design a safe and balanced program. This is a mandatory course for youth ages 13-14 years of age or in junior high who are new to the facility and interested in coming into the weight room on their own.

ARTRising Star Art

Program (12+ yrs) NDCC Multi-purpose Room No matter what your previous experience is with art, this program will help you explore your interest in visual art. Exercises and in-class projects will develop skills in drawing, painting, mixed media and collage. A sketchbook will be used to formulate ideas, explore personal expression and artistic style. This student-centered program will reflect the creative interests of participants and projects can be modified to accommodate individual interests and goals. Share inspiration, build confidence and have fun!

Participants of all skill levels will explore and develop their creativity in a welcoming and fun environment. We will work with a variety of themes and materials including; painting, colour theory, drawing, cartooning and mixed media. Art activities are designed to teach fundamentals skills, build confidence through collaboration, critical thinking and problem solving.

Art works created over the duration of the program will be complied in a personalized portfolio highlighting dedication, effort and growth.

ART & CRAfTMixed Media Arts

(18+ yrs)NDCC Multi-purpose Room

Exploring new, creative approaches to art. Through the use of narrative and metaphor, participants will develop their own artistic style and visual language.

Each week this course will take participants through exercises and techniques that explore themes of personal experience by interpreting the subjects of landscape, portrait, still life and abstraction. Pieces will be built from the ground up using a variety of mixed media such as drawing, painting and collage.

PRE REGISTERED fITnESS PROGRAMS Trail RunnersJoin Liz every Tuesday for a fun trail run. Liz will create a plan and deliver a new trail to run each class. Get tips on how to run efficiently and how to increase you endurance and build stamina. A list of meeting places will be supplied prior to the class start date. Runners should have the ability to run a minimum of 20 consecutive minutes.

Yoga for runnersFind strength, stability and flexibility...this 4 week program will help runners open up and lengthen common tight muscles associated with running. Almost PilatesThis class incorporates props such as stability balls, soft balls, gliding discs, mats, and foam rollers.  During each session a wide variety of exercises are slowly performed, the majority of which concentrate on strengthening the abdominal, core, and upper back muscles.  Have fun while you increase your functional strength!

Fabulous 50+According to the Public Health Agency of Canada, physical activity is one of the most important things people can do to maintain their physical and mental health as they get older. Each class will include a cardiovascular segment, upper and lower body strengthening, balance, and flexibility and coordination techniques. This is also an excellent program for those who have or who are concerned about developing osteoporosis.

Balance and MobilityBalance & mobility are important components of maintaining our independence as we age. This drop in class provides both seated and standing exercises to help you improve your balance, strength and mobility in a fun, encouraging atmosphere.

YOGA CLASSESPlease bring your own Yoga mat!

Power YogaThe focus of this style is movement! You can expect to sweat as you stretch and strengthen the body. This invigorating style of yoga begins with a series of sun salutes to get the circulation going followed by standing balances and cooling seated postures that focus on gently opening the tight areas (hips and back). The class will finish with a backbend variation, inversions and a mindful meditation. Options and variations will be provided for all experience levels from budding yogis to advanced practitioners.

Classical Hatha YogaThis class focuses on breath work to calm the mind and sustain our postures. We move through slowly and deeply, with long holds to give time to fully surrender. Inspiration is drawn from Baba Hari Dass and other yogis. Class is constantly evolving based on the needs and energy of the students. Some experience of asana and pranayama is recommended.

Hatha Flow YogaHatha Yoga uses postures (Asana) and conscious breathing (Pranayama) in combination with mental focus to develop awareness, strength and relaxation. A gentle class with a flowing pace introducing basic yoga poses.

Yin Yoga Yin Yoga is focused on gently stretching the connective tissue of the body. This is done slowly (1 - 5 minutes in each posture). Yoga postures are blended with Chinese meridian theory by alternatively pressurizing and stretching points on the body to stimulate the meridians.

Program Course Cancellations Programs may be cancelled due to insufficient enrolment. In the event of a program cancellation, participants will be notified with as much time as possible (minimum of 48 hrs); a preference for a transfer into another available program, credit on account, or full refund will be made. Payment made by credit card will be refunded back on the card.
