Merit/Demerit SystemReminder: Conduct/participation = 20% of gradePurpose– Positive & negative reinforcement of JROTC program policies &
standardsLeadership tool
– Motivate & encourage development of self-discipline, accountability, responsibility, pride, honor and Esprit-de-Corps among cadets
– Serve as documentation tool (good & bad)General– Start grading period with 100 points– Merits: awarded for positive actions that results in above
standards of performance. Merits also play a role in promotions.– Demerits: awarded for negative actions that result in below
normal standards of performance.– Merits & demerits have equal value – Merits & demerits may also influence jobs, awards, rank, letters
of recommendations, and ability to participate in extracurricular activities
– Merit/Demerit score posted weekly
NC-804 FORM 341All Cadets will be issued two 341s– Cadets are responsible for having two 341s on them
at all times (except during PT)I.E. In their possession (nearby)…treat it like a $100 bill SASI/ASI maintains all extra 341s so cadets do not stack up on them341’a are “documentation” tool Name/Flight etc. pre-filled out
If required, Instructor/cadet leadership will ask you for your 341 – Cadet turns over 341 for Instructor/leadership to fill
out and turn in (where TBD)If 341 taken, ask ASI/SASI for another ASAPIf lose 341 or don’t have it, except to be issued more demerits
MeritsAwarded for positive actions that results in above standards of performance.– Leader of cadet projects– Participating in non-mandatory activities such
as fundraisers, school/community activities, etc.
– Special recognition (in and out of JROTC)Get word/email from another teacher
– Any other activity as determine by SASI/ASI
DemeritsAwarded for negative actions that result in below normal standards of performance.Amount issues based on severity of offenses (CATEGORY) & if repeat offensesCertain number (30) will result in Cadet Evaluation Board
Category 4 OffenseMajor offenses that are detrimental to the image of the Corps (10-30 demerits)– Examples
Disrespect to the US Flag or the uniform Failure to wear uniform, disrespecting uniform and repeat uniform violations Disrespect to instructors, guest speakers, other faculty members, or substitute teachers Skipping Giving or receiving assistance during tests or examinationsStealing Any violations of the Wayne County Schools Handbook
Category 3 OffenseSerious offenses that result in serious damage to the image of the Corps (5-10 demerits)– Examples
Profanity/Vulgar comments Failure to execute a written or verbal order Disrespect to cadet offices or noncommissioned officers Leaving a formation without permission In school suspension Skipping classes of any kind Wear of earrings in the classroom (males) Multiple offenses in Uniform Improper wear of uniform Misconduct including public display of affection (PDA) in classroom, on drill field, on field trips or anywhere while performing a cadet function
Category 2 OffenseOffenses resulting in damage to the image of the Corps (3-5 demerits)– Examples
Failure to salute SASI/ASI when outdoors in uniform or when asked to report (Off Campus Only or when necessary) Failure to salute all higher-ranking cadet officers (Off Campus or when necessary) Neglect of duty Wearing earbuds in uniform
Category 1 OffenseOffenses resulting in minor damage to the image of the Corps (1-3 demerits)– Examples
Late to class without a pass Chewing gum in class Eating in class without permission Writing on desk tops, classroom or school wallsTalking in formation or classroom
AppealsIf cadet feels unjust, may be appealed by written request through CoC within 2 days after receiving the demeritRequest must state why demerit unjustifiedCadet Group CC will review appeals and make recommendation to SASI
