Apart from the magic that happens when we open the decade old NBN box for the first time. Outside our new daily injection of politics; what will the public see? Global Entertainment of choice! The public might see Government supply more information & services for a reduced cost by 2020 prices. Where is the world’s entire money, and how much pie would we all get divided equally at a given time. There are billions of people coming online to offer globally available internet service and media with no rules or enforceable penalties outside filtering for political interests. Some of these people will have a strong hunger to receive your afternoon’s tea. The pie is crumbs, before we get out the box. Many people, wise of day have been left behind or disinterested after a letter sends them to www.info. Most people are very interested and will teach themselves to use entertainment media equipment, the main media for political campaign. Polling is funded in-house and comes as an industry byproduct. Government services the people, and for most of us this is the second phase in delivery efficiency after the discontinuation of Government information by letter. Many with copper, satellite and wireless “will not receive fiber” to the home, but will instead receive wireless or satellite. Rightfully; new, existing or upgraded technology relabeled and subsidised NBN. High speed internet and media service providers have existed profitably for years outside Australia. For 10 years, the name NBN should not be a prerequisite to use, or profitability through the internet. Australia is not Hollywood and our shops are yet to see local online shopping with global supply. We need to support the supply of Australian online service and training to reduce imports. Access, training and knowledge, are the biggest hurdle today and for some indeterminate time to come. Internet access centers are important for equality in the provision of Government service, but working from a similarly reliable home connection can be far cheaper and more efficient in time and energy. Most people and business have a fixed line suitable for internet, the service quality determines if that line might reliably supply “phone over internet” for significantly lower costs, as an option of choice. I have done the same introduction to internet course twice, the second time was to increase the participation by one allowing the course to go ahead for the others (yer, don’t judge me). This course was representative of the training standards anywhere at the time; but I was disappointed with the difference between what we had to learn and my practicable requirement. Now years later with split years in Cert2 internet and half a year in Cert4 web design, home users and older beginners have expressed similar frustration with basic entry level training, most being structured for workplace employment competency, not saturation of public use, for a technology savvy people. Examples of skill levels required to use some specific online internet services: 1/Turn on/off, search the internet and sign up to online mailing system. 2/ Security systems, Banking and forums. 3/ Installation of simple software, downloading and precautions. Not a replacement for any formal qualification, but short introduction modules for subject retention. Promote change: Maintenance or replacement of some existing infrastructure before the NBN decade. Reduce one-way transport of computers to the city and fill. Supply computers at cost to communities. Authorised Government Computer refurbishment, in and for communities. Negotiations on software.
