RetainingWall Solutions

IntroductionNaylor is a well-established name in concrete product manufacture, having been founded some 40 years ago. The origins of the business lie in prestressed concrete lintels. As well as an excellent range of standard lintels, beams and panels, the Company has considerable manufacturing

Retaining Wall Solutions

flexibility: this is supported by a full technical and design capability, and results in an unrivalled bespoke service, allowing the speedy production of non standard items including special finishes, profiles and widths.

In addition to structural building components, Naylor offer cost-effective retaining wall products, which are used in a wide range of landscaping and storage applications:

• Retaining and garden walls

• Material compounds and recycling bays

• Traffic screening and vehicle protection

• Intruder prevention and property security

• Flood and landslide prevention

Naylor’s retaining wall solutions are manufactured off-site in a factory environment and shipped directly to site: site time is minimised and the installer avoids the potential weather disruption of retaining wall options which require on-site concrete pouring.

EasiWallEasiWall is a flexible and cost effective

interlocking modular block retaining

wall system which can be built up to

achieve high retaining wall structures.

The system is ideal for both temporary

and permanent applications.

Easy to use

• Up to 10 times faster to install than other retaining wall systems

• Quick installation in any weather

• Minimum labour requirement

• Standard site equipment (forklifts / telehandlers / small cranes) generally adequate

• Minimum site preparation, excavation and foundation requirements

• Product interlocks - no mortar required for all bar tallest structures

Cost Effective

• Affordable, inexpensive to install and maintenance free

Versatile

• Hugely versatile - the product can accommodate a wide range of applications

• Structural and non-structural

• Use on land or in water

Minimal Space Required

• Can be installed in limited working space

• Requires less space behind the wall than other systems

Reusable and Relocatable

• Where dry-laid, EasiWall can be easily demounted and reused

• Can be moved from location to location and application to application

Sustainable

• Sustainable recycled material content

• Near infinite life where appropriately handled

Installation

The product can be laid directly on flattened earth provided that the ground is firm and not subject to waterlogging or subsidence.

Where the structure is intended to be 4 courses high or more, it is recommended that the product is laid on a concrete base otherwise mortar is generally not required unless ground movement or side impact is anticipated.

Technical

The product is manufactured to:

• An engineered strength - EC7 standard

• Quality assurance to BS EN 9001

KingPost is a cost-effective retaining

wall system also known as ‘‘Berlin

Walls’’ and ‘‘Soldier Piles’’. The system

again has a huge range of both

structural and non-structural

applications.

The retaining wall structure is formed by

the vertical insertion of H beams in the

ground; pre-stressed concrete panels

are mounted between them. The use of

pre-stressed rather than pre-cast

concrete panels results in a high

strength/size ratio, ensuring that units

can be lighter and thinner than pre-cast

alternatives.

The use of retaining wall systems on

development sites has increased as

developers have tried to make

maximum use of available space or

design in underground structures.

KingPost is ideally suited to suburban

development projects: the ease of

handling and lack of large components

requiring cranage makes the product

easy to use on sites with limited space,

whilst the high strength/size ratio and

relatively small footprint is consistent

with maximisation of a site’s

developable area. There are however

many other applications for this system,

including in flood defence walls and

traffic screening.

KingPost

5Tel: 01924 267286 Fax: 01924 265674 Email: [email protected] Web: www.naylor.co.uk

Easy to use

• Easy to handle component parts, pre-

stressed concrete panels and H beams

• Ideal for sites with minimal space and/or

difficult access (eg railway embankments,

cuttings)

• Minimal risk of settlement and soil movement

during installation process

• Minimal soil displacement, no arisings, which

may incur muck-away cost

Cost Effective

• Assembly process is simple and not labour-

intensive

• Specialist labour or trades not required for

non-stuctural applications

• Specialised lifting equipment not required,

standard site plant generally adequate

• Smaller walls may be assembled without

using mechanical handling equipment

Versatile

• Available in a wide range of sizes

• Close pile spacing possible - particularly suited to highway structures

• Easy to mount and demount

Minimal Space Required

• High size/strength ratio

• Ideal when access to/within a site is extremely restricted

• Footprint much smaller than a gravity wall (latter can be 50-60%+ as deep/thick as the wall height)

• Allows maximisation of developable area

Reusable and Relocatable

• Useful in temporary retaining solutions such as flood defence

• Panels can be readily demounted and stored for further use or moved to another site

• Near infinite life where appropriately handled

The Components

H beams can be supplied by us as part of a

package or through a steel stockholder.

Concrete Panels are pre-stressed, produced by

Naylor Concrete Products Ltd., in various sizes

from 100 x 70mm to 215 x 290mm and widths

from 0.75m to 6.0m.

The panels have a smooth (ex-steel mould) finish

as standard, if you require special finishes or

colours, including fair faced units or textured

finishes, please contact our sales office.

Please note that our technical team provides a

full design and take off service and can advise on

the optimal configuration of panels and H beams

to meet your scheme or application’s needs.

Handling

KingPost walls comprises a number of easily

moveable components, which can be readily

handled and require no specilised lifting

Site Information

equipment, indeed smaller KingPost walls may be

handled without the use of mechanical handling

equipment.

Installation

The retaining structure for simple installations, eg

landscaping may be achieved by digging holes for

the H beams either manually or mechanically. For

structural/civil engineering applications, H beams

may be installed simply and quickly by either

auger boring a hole into which concrete is poured

around the H beam or by driving the H beam into

the ground.

Pile driving does not cause large soil

displacements and ground heave/site disruption

is generally minimal, the consequence has no

added expense of site clean up. There are no

pile arisings, which avoids the costs associated

with taking excess material off-site.
