About Nawada District
Nawada district, a part of Magadh division is a district of Bihar district with itsadministrative headquarters located at Nawada town. Nawada district came intoexistence in the year 1976. There is an interesting mythological story associated withthe district. During the Dwaparayuga, there was a king called Jarasandha, King ofMagadha who constructed a temple named Surya Narayana Mandir. Jarasandha’sdaughter Dhaniya was suffering from leprosy and used to go to this holy place every dayfor devotion. It is said that she used to bathe in the nearby pond and was cured.Dhaniya built a temple to Ma Bhagwati and a Shivalinga at Dhaniya hill. Nawada wasruled by the nearly independent Rajas of Hisua. The East India Company acquired it till1845, when it became the headquarters of the newly created subdivision. The elementsof disorder came to the front again during the Mutiny of 1857, when Nawada wasoverrun by marauding parties. The local offices were destroyed, but the Governmentrecord was saved by the native officials who hid them in a cave of a neighbouring hill. These are the only public records dating before 1857 which still exist in the district.
