Welcome

Dear Colleague,

Thank you for taking an interest in joining our talented team of colleagues at The Boulevard Academy. As Principal I am extremely fortunate to work with an outstanding and dedicated team of colleagues who in our first year have transformed learning for our students and our community.

The Boulevard Academy opened in September 2013 through a need to offer greater opportunities for our children locally to learn and develop in a way that’s best for them. Our philosophy is based on the Knowledge is Power Programme (KIPP) and our aim is to offer learners, parents and the community a new choice in secondary education in Hull.

I was delighted to be successfully appointed in December 2012. I wanted to lead this academy, because the vision, ethos and values align with my own. I firmly believe that every child has unique skills and talents and that they should be given every opportunity to develop them. I hold an unwavering expectation that all children can and will succeed. Each and every member of staff within this academy will hold the same expectation.

As Principal for the school I want to ensure: That every child achieves, no matter what their starting point; That our teaching will ensure academic achievement through providing the highest

standards of teaching and learning; That we provide and support everyone in our learning community.

You will be joining us at the start of our second year and one that will offer limitless opportunities to staff and the students we serve. Whilst a multimillion build programme that realised a brand new school is hugely exciting, it is only a building. Our vision can only be realised by recruiting exceptional colleagues, who can make a purposeful and lasting impact on the community we serve.

CPD and innovative staff development is at the very forefront as we develop and grow. Staff joining us will have opportunities for leadership development at all levels as we expand, and I will encourage all staff to actively contribute their ideas in developing new ways of working.

If you are seeking a truly distinctive role within a unique learning environment, come and visit us and see what we have to offer. I look forward to meeting you and reading your application.

Andy Grace | Principal

Our AcademyAbout The Boulevard AcademyLocated on the site of the Hull FC Stadium on The Boulevard in West Hull we moved into our brand new, purpose-built Academy in September 2013. We will ultimately cater for 600 students aged between 11 and 16, and in September 2017 we welcome our fifth cohort of Year 7 students. The Academy serves students from across the city and we are proud to serve the community of West Hull.

Our mission:“To work with all our students to assist them to develop the high expectations, academic and life skills that will best help them to be successful. Fostering personal confidence and happiness, we will challenge students to take responsibility for building a better world for the next generation.”To make this a reality we will:

Ensure every child achieves, no matter what their starting point. Set high expectations and create a culture of success to ensure the best outcomes for

all. Ensure our teaching delivers academic achievement as well as developing a positive

attitude to succeed in all students. Provide all students with an individual learning plan based on frequent assessment,

monitoring and data analysis. Have an expectation that all parents and students participate fully in the school

experience and actively support the school in its mission. We will select only the best staff to work with and for our students because the right

people make the difference. Demonstrate the joy of learning and the importance of community. Have a longer school day and more days in school per year to give additional learning

time compared to many schools.

We believe that this approach will best enable our students to leave the Academy well equipped in the ‘life skills’ that they will need to be successful in whatever pathway they choose.

A unique organisation We expect all students to: be equipped to take the English Baccalaureate Certificate. develop the skills in literacy and numeracy they need to succeed and achieve at EBacc level. follow an enrichment programme as an integral part of the curriculum that encourages and

fosters their creativity and imagination. have ‘real’ opportunities to learn and experience the world of work

The Boulevard Academy operates an extended school day and year. This includes Saturday school and a longer Summer Term.
