Col. Prentice Thompson, commander Silas 8. Hays Army Community Hospital, addressed members from NPS about medical issues Monday night in King Hall.

MEDICAL CARE 'TOWN MEETING' ADDRESSES ISSUES

A "Town Meeting" was held Monday night in King Hall to address military health care on the Monterey Peninsula.

Guest speakers from Silas B. Hayes Army Community Hospital, including Col. Prentice Thompson, commander Silas B. Hayes Army Community Hospital, fielded questions about care provided at Fort Ord.

The main issue discussed was obstetrics, according to Lt. Kimberly Pellack, Naval Medical Administration Unit OIC. The hospital currently has 15 family practice physicians and residents but will be dropping to five from June to September. Obstetricians will also drop from five to three during that time. Due to "Desert Stork" and the loss in physicians, a backlog of patients has occured. The staff at the hospital is looking for patients in OB who have due dates between June and September and

would like to take CHAMPUS. Anyone meeting that criteria can stop in at the CHAMPUS office at the hospital for further information. Additionally, anyone encountering excessive delays for GYN services may be eligible for CHAMPUS.

Another highly visible item discussed was access to other clinics in a timely manner. The guest speakers responded that new programs will be implemented that should help alleviate the problem.

The staff is also working to improve communications between the hospital and patients. An OB/GYN newsletter was brought up, as was printing aritcles in "At Ease." General questions about patient affairs can be directed to the Patient Representative Office at 242-3111.

CHILD SAFETY SEAT RECALL TESTS SHOW SEAT ALLOWS TOO MUCH HEAD MOVEMENT

Evenflo is recalling 14,387 Ultara II child safety seats that fail to meet safety standards.

The seats affected were manufactured between Jan. 5, 1990 and June 18, 1990. The Ultara II seat is the only Evenflo seat to be affected by the recall, the Ultara I is not being recalled.

Tests performed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration show that the seat allows a child's head to move too far forward in a crash when the seat is used in a front-facing position. The tests were confirmed by Evenflo. If you own an Ultara II safety seat

manufactured during the dates shown, Evenflo will provide a new shell and instructions to attach it to the existing front t-shield. If you are not sure if the seat you own is

affected by the recall, contact Evenflo at 1-800-837-8926. Evenflo can also be reached by mail at 1801 Commerce Drive, Piqua, Ohio, 45356.

If you have any further questions on this recall, you can also contact the safety office at ext. 2911or2A75 or stop by the office in Herrmann Hall-040.
