USS Constitution Known as Old Ironsides.

Is a wooden hulled, three-masted frigate of the US Navy.

Oldest commissioned (still working) ship in the world, still afloat.

Constitution was one of six frigates authorized for construction by an act of Congress in 1794.

Joshua Humphreys designed them to be the Navy’s capital ships.

Battle of Lake Erie Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry: Had built nine ships.

Captain Robert Barclay: Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry Opponent. Six Vessels.

American fleet was trapped by sand bar in harbor.

Barclays ship maintained a blocade of Presque Isle unit July 1813 when sailed away for reinforcements.

In mid- afternoon on September 10, Perry's flagship was destroyed. Commander transferred over to another ship.

Barclay was wounded and taken prisoner along with other British sailors.

British squadron captured and taken back as prizes.

American Forces then got in complete control of Lake Erie.
