Meaning of the Poem The 1 st person point of view 'We' is used in the

poem. Jamaica does not have the four seasons .

Instead they days when the weather is hot andsun shines brightly on the green sugarcanefields.

There are also days when the rain pours intorrents on roofs. No other sound is heardexcept the sound of water flowing in thegullies and strong winds blowing against thetrees.

There are times when trees shed their leavesand the cane fields lie barren and fallow after the canes have been harvested.

The best days when the earth come aliveagain are when trees like mango and logwoodblossom , and bushes are full of bees and the

air smells of honey . The grass grows tall and moves gracefully in

    the slightest breeze.

Buttercups bloom and cover the ground withyellow stars. Nature bursts with beauty when the rain has

    stopped.
