01 INtroductIoN

As of September 1st 2009 all Nature Fiber Boxes, Bins and Baskets will move to Home organisation. They will complete the total offer of PA Boxes and PA Bins & Bags and give our customers a much stronger destination for storage solutions including all materials. The choice will be strengthen massively. In this material we will provide you with all neccessary facts and inspiration enabling you to take ownership of these Nature Fiber products. Both existing products, but also some important News that will be sales started throughout FY10. In this material we have also choosen to present the existing Nature Fibre products within Home Organisation.

nAturE FIBrEmAtErIAls usEd In IKEA prOductsThere are five major natural fibre materials; rattan, bamboo, banana fibre, sea grass and willow. They have different appearances and characteristics. The natural fibre material most commonly used in IKEA products is rattan.

It can be used both internally, as a work tool and as store communica-tion, to make it easier for our custom-ers to chose the right basket for their storage unit. Choose the right basket for the bookcase

From the 1st of September 2009 it is our responsibility, in Home Furnishing Business 18, to take care of and develop the sales of Nature Fibre Boxes in a very good way. The purpose is to present all our boxes in one place at HFB18 in order to create an outstanding impact of boxes in all materials, designs, sizes etc. that will help the customers to have a great overview of all our boxes to choose from. By doing this IKEA will be positioned as the best place to visit when you need boxes for your home. And for all customers already in the store it will be obvious that boxes exists and lead to spontaneously discovered needs for boxes. It will be impossible to avoid our box offer. In order to reach this condition it is already now important to do necessary preparations for a smooth transfer without disturbances.

lEArn ABOut tHE nAturE FIBrE BOxEsUse this guideline to learn as much as pos-sible about the products in all aspects. In addition take use of the all knowledge that your colleagues in BA50 have build up over the years.

mArKEt HAllThe quicker you can move over the boxes from BA50 the better! It is so much easier to exercise your responsibility by having the products in your own area. When you plan the HFB18 including Nature Fibre Boxes it is extremely important that you do that according to Common Store Plan FY10 and Store Dimension Layout FY10 since the Nature Fibre Boxes demands additionally 70-90 m2 sales area.

You need: FY0�: 12% of Market Hall incl. Activity area and Shelf bar (no Nature Fibre Boxes).FY�0: 14% of Market Hall incl. Activity area and Shelf bar and Nature Fibre Boxes.

In this Guideline you’ll find information and links to Common Store Planning. In order to make it easier for you to plan and integrate the Nature Fibre Boxes into HFB18, we have also included information regarding the packaging sales solution, the products itself as well as design of the pallets. If, however, the Nature Fibre boxes remain in BA50 for a while, it is still in the respon-sibility of HFB18 management! It is very important to secure the information flow, the handling, the merchandising, the availabilities and the daily and long term sale activities. A good idea, in the latter case, is to double expose and sell top products also in HFB18.

What is bamboo?There are more than a thousand bamboo species,most can be found in the tropics. The bamboo plantsthere grow in groups and can be up to 30 metres tall.The stems can vary in thickness and are usually green,but can also be yellow, brown or black. Bamboo isharvested after it has grown for 2 to 4 years. Theentire bamboo plant is used to make furniture frames,and smaller parts are woven or glued together tomake baskets or dishes.

What is banana fibre?A banana plant can be up to nine metres tall, and theplant dies once it produces fruit. The trunk is choppeddown and the outer parts are cut into smaller pieces,which are dried in the sun. The dry pieces are thenmade into narrow strips that are braided or woveninto furniture. There are many different types ofbanana plant, which is why the fibres can shift incolour. We like to blend them - it gives our productsmore life.


What is palm leaf?There are many different types of fan palm, but thespecies we use come from the tropical regions of Asia.There, the palms grow for more than 30 years beforethey finally flower, produce fruit and die. As the palmtree grows, leaves are cut off and dried in the sun. Thethick veins are removed from the leaves to be used asthe framework for woven products. And the greenishor pale yellow leaves are woven into baskets.


What is rattan?Rattan almost looks like liana, but it's actually thename for many different species of climbing palm thatgrow in tropical climates in Asia, Australia and Africa.Most are thorny and can grow to over 100 metres.There are several hundreds of species of rattan in theworld - all with their own special colours andcharacteristics. Since rattan furniture and baskets arehandmade, using a blend of different types of rattan,each piece is unique.


What is seagrass?In spite of its name, seagrass doesn't grow underwater, but close to it. It grows along rivers and coasts.And a few times a year, when the grass has grown astall as a couple of metres, it's harvested. The seagrassis then dried in the sun - either just as it is, or after it isseparated and pressed. The material is woven orbraided into mats and bowls. The work is done byhand or with weaving looms.
