Fire Fires breath too

plants use the air from the atmosphere to make food, which they need to grow.

Plants take in carbon dioxide in the air through tiny holes in their leaves. In return, they

release oxygen back into the air.

Animals , like humans, need oxygen to make their bodies work. Animals breath in

oxygen, which is found in the air. This oxygen is taken into animal’s body through the

blood vessels of the lungs. In return, the animals breath carbon dioxide, which is

released into air.

The fire is not a living thing, but it also needs oxygen. Do you know what is a fire is?

It is heat and light energy being released. In a wood-fire, the energy stored inside the

wood is released as it burns. The fire uses up oxygen as energy is released.

A fire cannot keep burning if it runs out of oxygen. This is why you can put out a fire

by smothering it with something heavy, like a blanket.
