NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME
“DENGUE AWARENESS CAMP”

Report
A one day Dengue awareness camp was organized by the National Service Scheme
of our college on 24.08.2017 in association with the Primary Health Center, Pudunagar,
Pudukkottai. The programme officers Mr. P. Rajeshwaran, Unit I, and Mr. S. Ambalatharasu,
Unit II, had made all the arrangements for the camp.
The camp was formally inaugurated by our principal, Dr. J. ArputhaVijayaselvi. Our
Public Relations Officer, Mr. R. Annamalai had extended tremendous help for the successful
completion of the camp. Dr. Suresh, Primary Health Care Officer, Pudunagar and Health
Inspector Mr. Ramesh, Pudunagar, participated in this camp and gave awareness about the
dengue, especially about various stages of Aedes mosquito and its various stages of growth
like pupa, larvae, worm, insect, etc.,
He explained the symptoms of Dengue Fever, like continuous vomiting, knee pain,
stomach pain, head ache, and body pain, and also gave practical awareness about where it
will be in, like breeds in Flower pots, Water coolers, Refrigerators, and Wastages etc. The
dengue mosquito prefers to bite its prey on the ankles, legs and knees. The Camp witnessed
the enthusiastic participation of 45 NSS volunteers with the help of 30 members from Health
Care Center, Pudunagar. In and around of our college campus some of the water with larva in
it were found and destroyed by “ABATE”, which is a powerful larvicide that effectively
controls mosquito larvae as the first line of defense against Dengue Mosquito.
The awareness camp was really conducive to keep the environment free from Dengue
virus.The camp also disseminated a note of awareness to the volunteers who has
undiminished concern for the society.
