ABOUT THE ORGANIZING INSTITUTIONABOUT THE ORGANIZING INSTITUTIONABOUT THE ORGANIZING INSTITUTION
PSGR Krishnammal College for Women, blossomed in the year 1963 at Peelamedu,
Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India. Envisioned and nurtured by the renowned educationists
Shri. G.R. Govindarajulu, Founder Trustee and Smt. Chandrakanthi Govindarajulu,
Founder Correspondent, it is an edifice of their commitment and dedication to serve the
cause of humanity through education and service.
The institution offers 12 UG, 4 PG under the aided scheme, 19 UG, 7 PG, 3 PG
Diploma & 3 Certificate Courses under the unaided scheme & M.Phil. and Ph.D.
programmes in 11 disciplines, with a strength of more than 6500 students and 250 faculty
members. The institution aims at the all round development of the students, empowering
them with entrepreneurial and decision making skills by providing an excellent academic
environment, inculcating the values of discipline, dignity, dedication and devotion to
higher causes along with sportsmanship to make them better citizens.
The greatest achievement of the college is its highest status as College of thExcellence awarded by UGC and 14 Rank in NIRF by MHRD. Recognition by DST –
FIST in the year 2012 at the college level is a value addition. Inclusion of Science
departments under 'DBT-Star College Scheme' is an added feather to the cap. In the post
golden jublee year (2014) the institution has entered into new ventures of skill enhancing
programmes through B.Voc. (in two disciplines) and a community college sponsored by
UGC. A Rural Women Technology Park (DST - Sponsored) has been launched at
Pillaiappampalayam, Annur Taluk to empower the Women community of rural areas
through technology transfer and entrepreneurship.
Department of Physics
The Department of Physics established in the year 1968, is now offering UG, UG (SF), PG
(SF), M.Phil and Ph.D programmes. The areas of research in the department are
nanotechnology, energy storge, thin film technology, ceramic & crystal growth technology
and computational physics. The department has completed research projects sponsored
by UGC, IEDC and DST.
Department of Chemistry
The Department of Chemistry established in1963, since the college inception, is today a
full fledged research centre with M.Phil and Ph.D. programmes, in addition to UG, PG
(Aided) and PG (SF) chemistry programmes. A strong institute – industry interaction with a
good placement record exists in the department. The areas of research in the department
include corrosion science, organic synthesis, environmental chemistry, coordination
chemistry and polymer chemistry. The department has Major and Minor projects sponsored
by UGC & DRDO and NSTEB-IEDC to it’s credit.
Advanced Materials are at the heart of many technological developments that
touch our lives. Materials science has provoked and contributed to the
emergence of various nanomaterials, biomaterials, electronic, optical and
magnetic materials, piezoelectric materials, ceramics, glasses, polymers, metal
alloys, smart materials, semiconductor materials and design of complicated

structures through innovative technology. The basis of all materials science involves relating
the desired properties and relative performance of a material in a certain application to the
structure of the atoms and phases in that material through characterization.
ICAM 18 focuses on natural biological systems, characterizing and simplifying them, and
using them as a component of an artificial engineered biological system.

Besides gaining and exchanging knowledge during the conference, we hope
the participants would take the opportunity to explore our historic city. It is a major
commercial centre and has often been referred to as the "Manchester of South
India". It is surrounded by hill ranges of Western Ghats. Thence, Coimbatore has
a pleasant, salubrious climate with an average temperature of
26 ° ± 2°C. Participants can plan for small trips to Siruvani and Perur, or Ooty and
Coonoor according to their convenience.
