Inaugural Ceremony of

ONE DAY WORKSHOP

ON

PRACTICES IN IRON AND STEEL MAKING AT VISAKHAPATNAM STEEL PLANT

One Day Workshop on “PRACTICES IN IRON AND STEEL MAKING AT

VISAKHAPATNAM STEEL PLANT” was organized on 07th April, 2018 by the MME

Department in association with Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Association (MMEA)

and The Indian Institute of Metals (IIM) – NIT AP Student Chapter which was formed and

inaugurated on April 17th 2017 in collaboration with IIM – Visakhapatnam Chapter and

Visakhapatnam Steel Plant. Workshop was inaugurated by the Honorable Chief Guest

Prof. Ch. Surya Prakash Rao garu., Founding Director of NIT – Andhra Pradesh. Inaugural

ceremony was graced by the dignitaries Prof. P. Nageshwara Rao garu., Head, Sciences &

Humanities of NITAP, Prof. S. Srinivasa Rao garu., Coordinator of NITAP, Guest Speakers

from Visakhapatnam Steel Plant Mr. B. Sridhar Rao garu., General Manager (Blast Furnace),

Mr. S. K. Sahu garu., General Manager (Steel Melt Shop), Mr. E. Kaliprasad garu., General

Manager (Mills), Mr. Ramaseshu garu., General Manager (Coke Ovens & Coal Chemical Plant),

Mr. M. Bhaskar Venkata Rao garu., Deputy General Manager (R&D), Sri. Karri Srinivas garu.,

Assistant General Manager (Blast Furnace), Faculty and students of NITAP also attended the

inaugural ceremony.

The event started with inviting the dignitaries on the dais and lighting of lamps followed by

prayer song. Dr. Raffi Mohammed, MME Course Coordinator welcomed the dignitaries and

briefed the importance of the workshop. IIM Vizag Chapter General Secretary Mr. M. Bhaskar

Venkata Rao explained the activities of the IIM and functioning of local student chapter under

IIM Vizag Chapter. Chief Guest of the occasion Prof. C.S.P. Rao garu, Director of NITAP

addressed the gathering and explained the importance of Extractive Metallurgy, role of new

materials for various applications and motivated the students with its career prospects and then

distributed the IIM Student Membership certificates to the MME students. MME Department

and IIM Vizag chapter grandly felicitated our Chief Guest Prof. C.S.P. Rao garu by all the

dignitaries on this occasion. The inaugural ceremony was concluded with vote of thanks by Dr.

Raffi Mohammed and briefed the proceedings of the workshop to the gathering. He wished IIM

NIT AP student chapter under IIM Visakhapatnam in association with Visakhapatnam Steel

Plant to become a great platform for benefit of the Metallurgical and Materials Engineering

student community and strengthen the relation between academia and industry.
