NDoT Transport Infrastructure Division

Role and Scope

Transport infrastructure co-ordination between the three spheres of government, between government departments, parastatals and agencies, across all modes of transport (road – private and public transport, rail, airports, seaports, and multimodal interchange facilities).


Functions

• Development and management of an integrated transport infrastructure database and MIS

• Contribution to NDoT infrastructure policy, strategy, and NLTSF


Functions continued

• Contribution to appropriate national standards for infrastructure, through COTO / MINCOM

• SA’s compliance with regional (SADC) and international (ICAO and IMO) infrastructure standards

• Co-ordination of SA’s role in the transport infrastructure aspects of NEPAD


Functions continued

• Integration of transport infrastructure with government priorities

• Participation in network planning and co-ordination in liaison with provinces, local authorities, and agencies

• Planning, implementation, or management of special state infrastructure projects


Functions continued

• Steering of Departmentally-funded research and technology transfer relating to transport infrastructure

• Promoting skills development, SMME participation, and BEE in infrastructure projects

• road and rail infrastructure standards• public transport infrastructure (modal interchange) standards• traffic signage standards

• Compliance with regional and international standards

• Co-ordinate the planning and implementation of infrastructure research
