The most common blackbird in Iceland. Looks a bit like a penguin and sometimes called the priest. 32 cm long, with a 53 cm wingspan, weight 380 g. They feed by diving in the ocean and like sandeel, herring and capelin. Puffins breed in colonies on coasts and islands but spend most of their life at sea. They breed in large colonies on coastal cliffs or offshore islands, nesting in crevices among rocks or in burrows in the soil. Puffins form long-term pair bonds or relationships. The female lays a single egg, and both parents incubate the egg and feed the chick. Puffins can have a long life and live for 20-25 years. Puffins are hunted for eggs, feathers and meat.
