SESSION STRUCTURE FOR NATICK

All sessions will be 45minutes long, focussing on one topic and the technical skills required.Sessions will follow the structure:

WEEK ONE: Dribbling - Foot Skills WARM UP (15mins): Foot Skills ChallengeSET UP/ RULESSet a foot skills challenge in each square and a time limit to try and complete challenge. Can the group beat the clock and complete all 4 boxes in 1 minute.10 Toe Taps10 Foundations10 Scissors10 inside/outside touches

TECHNICAL (15mins): Dribbling to shootSET UP/ RULESSplit into two teams, starting either side of the cones. First player in the line dribbles the ball down the channel and perform an attacking move through the gate to then shoot for goal.

PROGRESSIONAdd a defender in the middle chan-nel (shark) The shark will hold a ball in their hands and must try and touch players soccer balls with their own ball. Shark gets one point for each ball eaten. Players get a point each time they swim the ocean and cross the desert.COACHING POINTS:Keep ball close to feetHead up for awarenessUse different parts of the foot

TECHNICAL (15mins) 1v1 3 goal gameSET UP/RULESSplit into two teams who start either side of the coach. First player from each team will run around the area through the first goal on coach’s command. Coach will pass the ball into one of the players. Player tries to beat defender and dribble ball through a goal. If defender wins ball they try dribble through three goals on opposite side.

WEEK TWO: Dribbling At Speed

TECHNICAL (15mins): DribblingSET UP/RULESRed pass into whites who turn and dribble to the cone diagonally opposite. Players always follow pass and replace player on the cone they pass too

TECHNICAL (15mins): Ball StealSET UP/ RULESSplit players into two teams, 1 team in each end zone. Each player has a ball. When coach shouts ‘go’ each player leaves their ball and goes and steals a ball from the other teams zone and dribbles it back to their own zone. Team with most balls in their zone after 2 mins wins.

WEEK THREE: Turning

TECHNICAL (15mins): Reaction TurningSET UP/ RULESPlayers all stand on the central line with a ball. Coach will call out a colour. Players must dribble the ball into that colour zone, perform a turn and return to the middle line

WEEK FOUR: Dribbling With Change of DirectionWARM UP (15mins): DribblingSET UP/ RULESSplit players evenly on outside cones with a ball at each cone. Players dribble to opposite cone and stop ball for next player.

TECHNICAL (15mins): Straight Lines v Zig ZagsSET UP/ RULESSplit onto two teams. Reds start on the short side, whites start on the long side. The red team must dribble their ball from east to west. White team dribble north to south but must zig zag the dribble.

PROGRESSIONStart players on all sides with same rulesSwitch team sides.Add a defender in the area who tries to touch the top of any ball with the sole of their foot.1 Point for each ball touched. At-tackers 1 point for every successful dribble to the other side.

TECHNICAL (15mins): Dribbling with pressureSET UP/ RULESPlayer 1 dribbles past the cone to shoot for the goal opposite. As soon as the shot has been struck, player 2 from the next team drib-bles to the goal opposite. Player 1 then must try and recover and prevent player 2 from shooting. As player 2 shoots, player 3 will go and player 2 will chase. Process repeats

WEEK FIVE: Dribbling With MovesWARM UP (15mins): Box TagSET UP/ RULESEach player has a ball and dribbles around in-side the area and through as many squares as possible. Only 1 person in a square at a time.

SET UP/ RULESHave 4 equal teams lined up as shown.White team pass ball across to red. Red player moves into the area looking to escape out either side goal for 1 point or get to opposite line for 3 points. If defender steal the ball they try and escape or get to end line.

WEEK SIX:1v1moves

TECHNICAL (15mins): 1v1 moves SET UP/ RULESEach player has a ball. The players in opposite lines dribble the ball towards each other. Just before the players ‘crash’ they must change direction to the right and dribble to the op-posite line. How close can they get before they change direction.

PROGRESSIONCan player use a move to change direction. Red team have a ball each. First plater dribbles ball into play and tries to get ball through white team goal. One white player enters game and tries to win possession to score in red team goal.COACHING POINTS:Attack at speedChange of directionChange of speed once past defender

WARM UP (15mins): Dribbling - Change of speedSET UP/ RULESEach player has a ball and dribbles in the outside square. When a player enters the mid-dle square they must perform 3 moves before going back to the larger square.

PROGRESSIONAdd defender to the middle square who must try and touch the top of any ball with the bottom of their foot. Attackers must try and perform 3 moves in the middle square without defender touch-ing their ball. 1 point for every 3 moves. Defender gains 1 point for every touch of a ball with sole of foot.COACHING POINTS:Keep ball closeInside/outside/sole of foot to manipulate ball

TECHNICAL (15mins): 1v1 Moves to goalSET UP/RULESPlayer 1 dribbles to shoot. As 1 shoots player 2 dribbles to shoot at other goal. Player 1 be-comes defender after shot.

WEEK NINE: Receiving Skills

TECHNICAL (15mins) - Receiving SkillsSet up/ rulesSplit into two teams lined up centrally be-tween each set of goals. One team start with the balls. First player in team without balls runs into the centre through the gate. As player reaches gate ball is passed in. Player receives to turn and dribbles through a corner goal and back to thier team. Balls should them be with other team to repeat exercise.

PROGRESSIONReceiving player can turn to either goal and dribble through. The passer must now try and run through the other goal before the receiver gets through the goal they turn too. Win-ner gets a point for their team.Passer now chases receiver and tries to tag them before they dribble through a goalCOACHING POINTSChange of speed or direction to beat

TECHNICAL (15mins): Receiving under pressureSET UP/ RULESHave two teams lined up side by side centrally between the goals. The attacker will start the practice. As soon as the attacker runs for the gate, the defender can follow. Attacker re-ceives a pass from the coach tries to receive the ball and turn to dribble through either goal. Defender can’t tackle until attacker has taken a touch. If defender wins the ball they can attack other two goals.

WEEK TEN: ShootingWARM UP (15mins): Squashers & ShootersSET UP/ RULESPlayer 1 dribbles to opposite red cone. As player 1 is dribbling player 2 calls out ‘squash’ At this point player 1 stops the ball with sole of foot (squashes the ball) and player 2 runs in to shoot first time to goal. Rotate groups

TECHNICAL (15mins): Shooting Speed RaceSet up/ rulesSplit into two teams, 5 yards from each goal post. Coach’s starts opposite the goal. On coaches command first player from each line races out to the opposite cone through the central gate to try and be first to a ball passed into the area by the coach. Player who scores gets point for their team.

TECHNICAL (15mins) - Dribbling, Passing & ControlSet up/ rulesHave a player standing in between each set of cones. Player 1 starts with the ball. Player 3 will move to the left or right. Player 2 reacts off this movement and moves in the opposite direction (shown by blue arrows) P1 passes into P3. P3 sets the ball off for P2 to shoot for goal. P3 follows in shot. Players move forward to next set of cones and P3 joins back of line.Players must start centrally for each go.
