New SNCF Rolling Stock in Ile de France NAT
• The SNCF fleet (3900 vehicles) is in average 22 years old
• Since decentralisation (effective march 2006), STIF contributes to the funding of the rolling stock and is involved in the procurement process:
• Project includes:
– 172 specifically designed trainsets for IDF (NAT) as a first phase of procurement of new rolling stock (20% of the fleet)
– 24 AGC trainsets, and
– the renovation of 137 double deck trainsets.

NAT
• Funding is 50% STIF (including State funds) and 50% SNCF for a total amount of € 2billion.
• Specifications of the NAT are the result of a cooperation between the operator SNCF and STIF,
• Emphasis has been put on technical performances and capacity, comfort, security and accessibility.

NAT accessibility
• The floor of the vehicle is 97cm high • to accomodate low platfoms (55cm) NAT is equipped wih
removable steps,• to ensure level access for wheel chair users, a specific sliding
plate at the first vehicle bridges the horizontal gap provided the station platform has been raised (partially or totally) at 92cm,
• on board visual and audio information is given by screens and dynamic map showing the route in progress.

Regional Structural Bus Network
• Objectives:– Draw a recognisable bus network for the users at regional level
– Take into account urban development as it is an the need for bypasses
– Apply same criteria for selecting the routes
– Deliver same quality of service and frequency across the Structural Bus Network
– Allow space for improvements according to first results
– Budget for the first year: €70million

Regional Structural Bus Network
• Description:– The project is the result of a large consultation with operators
(RATP,SNCF,Optile) and counties
– In the outer suburbs, bus routes connect main interchanges and activity centres
– In the close suburbs emphasis is put on bypasses to allow suburban to suburban juorneys
– Emphasis in Paris is to connect the city to the suburbs
– Regional Structural Bus Network is supplementary to the rail network
– Regional Structural Bus Network may evolve

• Implementation:– Outer suburbs: 39 routes and 9 million km more per year
– Close suburbs : 13 bypass routes plus 7 radial routes representing 3,1million km more per year
– Paris : 10 Mobilien routes (existing trunk lines) plus 8 routes connecting with the suburbs representing 2,5 million km per year

Night services
• Since 2007, on the metro network :– trains run until 2:15 am on Fridays, Saturdays and in the night
before bank holidays
– the 1 hour extension represents 1 366 612 train –km more
– and an increase of 3,1% of the level of provision in the contract STIF-RATP
– the decision applies to 296 stations and involves 600 employees working successively between 2:20 am and 3:15 am

Night services
Noctilien bus service:• every night from 0:30 am to 5:30 am
• every 17mn on week days and every 10 mn on week ends
• 35 lines: 2 circles lines in Paris, 8 suburban to suburban lines and 25 radials from Paris to suburbs
• 175 municipalities served with 1950 stops
• 2,6 million passengers since 2005
• operational costs € 8,5 million
• extension is planned to cover at night the RER network

Tramway back in Paris
New tramway line T3:• Since the opening on 16 December 2006
T3 is very popular among travellers
• More than 5 million passengers in 3 month time or 80000 passengers/day (30000 /day with previous bus line)
• Every 5mn in peak hours
• Runs from Pont du Garigliano to Porte d’Ivry
• Investment costs: 215million € infrastructure plus 44million € for urban renewal and 53 million € for rolling stock
• Carefully designed the project is a symbol of clean and modern transport on a previously noisy and polluted avenue

Tram-train T4 Aulnay-Bondy
• 8 km line serving eastern suburbs of Paris
• former heavy rail line has been closed then upgraded (double tracks all long)
• 11 stations : 8 existing, 3 new
• New rolling stock Avanto Siemens
• Headway at peak hours reduced from 15 to 6 mn
• Investment costs : infrastructure 55 million € rolling stock 70 million €
• A genuine technology Tram Train may run on rail tracks in the suburbs as well as on light rail tracks when circulating in a city. It allows, beyond institutional boundaries, the merging of urban and suburban areas .
