What is TRiO? The purpose of our SSS TRiO

Project is to provides Academic Sup-

port Services to Students who meet

the Federal SSS TRiO eligibility crite-

ria.

The Nassau Community

College SSS TRiO project

utilizes the proven strate-

gies of Encouragement,

Mentoring and Monitoring

(EMM) to achieve a high

rate of retention and per-

sistence for SSS TRiO participants.

The SSS TRiO project helps to amelio-

rate some of the academic barriers

that Students with Disabilities encoun-

ter daily by employing academic suc-

cess strategies that have a proven rec-

ord of facilitating a high rate of gradua-

tion and transfer to a four (4) year

college.

so wonderful to type “SPRING”! I am all

“Cold-ed Out” with winter. In the meantime

let’s pave the way to a successful semester.

I received my Masters in Special Education. In this seg-

your TRiO coach. They are there to help you navigate the college

In Memoriam...

Professor Jeffrey was a counselor at the Center for Students with Disabilities for

thirty-five (35) years. His sudden death impacted the lives not only of his personal

family, but his very large family of NCC students, faculty and Staff. His passion for

providing access to Students with Disabilities is missed on a daily basis.

All students agree that attending Nassau Community College tends

to be a rewarding experience academically and socially.

Frequently the commute to the college can be challenging for many

reasons. I was a commuter student to the City College of New York for my under-

graduate and graduate degrees. Even now, I occasionally take the bus to NCC.

In Nassau County, there is the NICE bus, including ABLE Ride, for those who do

not have a car, or cannot drive. Public transit initially might seem daunting due

to scheduling, but it offers numerous advantages, including a stress-free

environment, as opposed to driving in traffic and finding legal parking.
