  • 06/09/2017 IMEC beats JOKs in Barnburner 14-11 The Lord giveth. Joks jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the 1st on Gary Johnson, (2 for 3) Bert Guimond, (3 for 3) Mike Albano (2 for 3) all got base hits and Roger Neild big single plated them all. IMEC answered with 4 runs in the bottom of the 1st when Dick Gillespie, Ron Monteiro, Frank Sommer and Bob Sullivan scored on Joe Dambrosio (3 for 3) single. In the 4th now trailing 6-3, Joks erupted for 5 runs when Bert Guimond, Mike Albano all got base hits and Roger Neild all singled and were driven in by Paul Valdanbrini’s (3 for 3) base hit. In the 5th, now trailing 11-6, IMEC plated 3 runs when Frank Sommer and Bob Sullivan scored on Joe Dambrosio's triple. Geoff Geoffrion single drove in Joe. In the 6th trailing 11-9, IMEC erupted for 5 runs when Bill Ohm and Dick Gillespie singled, Bob Beaver doubled, Frank Sommer walked and Joe Dambrosio drove them in. And the Lord taketh away. Winning Pitcher Losing Pitcher Bill Kotopoulis Steve Stitt

06/09/2017 Dr Dionne's slaughter Calvary 16-4 Dr Dionne's scored the maximum 5 runs in the 1st, 2nd and 4th innings, For Dionne's John Remillard and Rod Robuccio were both 3 for 3. But it was the bottom of Dionne's lineup that did the damage. Joe Richards, Harold Murphy, Jerry Levin and Wayne Hanson were all 2 for 2 and each scored 2 runs. Calvary only had 7 hits and 6 of those were in their 4 run 4th. Dionne's dinks and dunks fell in, but Calvary's liners were right at someone. Winning Pitcher Losing Pitcher Thom Riley Bob Lavoie

06/02/2017 Arts beat M&N 10-9 in extra innings Another nail biter for Arts. In the 1st, John Chase doubled, Ted Theos Singled and Joe Kowalik doubled to plate 4 runs. In the 3rd, John Chase tripled and scored. M&N rallied for 5 runs in the 3rd on 7 consecutive hits by Frank Sommer, Charlie Hoew, Don Kasper, Kip Ferguson, Rob Rich and Paul McKinnon who all singled and when Earl Wickline doubled the score was 5-5. In the 7th, now trailing 8-5, Frank Sommer hit a 2 run HR, then Charlie Howe doubled and scored. In the 8th, "Mr. Clutch" Jerry Ferullo's (every game occurrence) single drove in the winning run. Home Runs: Frank Sommer Winning Pitcher Losing Pitcher Ted Theos Charlie Howe

06/09/2017 Pine Street rally for 10 in the 7th and beat Hanson's 15-14 A game Hanson’s hopes to forget. Sort of like the Superbowl, Atlanta Falcons fans watch the first 3 quarters then change the channel. Bob Lamontagne belted a 2 run Home Run in the 1st, and the rout was on, seemingly. Despite Hanson holding a 14-5 lead going into the bottom of the 7th, Pine St rallied for 10 runs in the bottom of the 7th to pull out a very improbable victory 15-14. The Pine St bats came very alive in the 7th with solid hits and finding the holes as 13 batters came to the plate. The winning run was scored with two outs with a base hit by Paul Avakian to left center that was missed by only inches by Hanson's hard charging left center fielder Paul Poisson that scored the runner from 1st base. Hanson missed out on several scoring opportunities throughout the game where they could have put Pine St away early via the "Merci Rue" and letting Pine St stay in the game for a dramatic comeback victory. See box score as this reporter cannot adequately retell the tale. Home Runs: Bob Lamontagne Winning Pitcher Losing Pitcher Joe Martinoli Bob Lemieux

06/12/2017 IMEC outslug M&N 18-15 in extra innings This see-saw battle featured four lead changes, and was tied at three other times. M&N ran up leads of 7-3 and 10-7, only to have them erased by an IMEC long ball – First a Grand Slam from Al LaMontagne, then an inning later, "LA Bob" Lamontagne tagged Charlie Howe for a 3-Run shot to send it into extra innings. The game could have ended in 7 when M&N had runners on 1st and 2nd with 1 out, but could not score. After a scoreless 8th, IMEC exploded for 7 Runs in the 9th highlighted by Bob Beaver's Grand Slam. Still it wasn't over. M&N scored 4 of their own in the bottom half of the inning before finally running out of steam. M&N’s Charlie Howe matched IMEC’s Bob Beaver’s 5 for 5 performance in a losing effort. Home Runs: Bob Beaver; Bob Lamontagne; Al LaMontagne Winning Pitcher Losing Pitcher Bill Kotopoulis Charlie Howe

06/12/2017 Hanson’s slaughter Arts 15-2 In a hot, sunny 94-degree day, Hanson’s wore their running shoes as they routed Arts 15-2 in 5 short innings. Hanson's had 7 singles in the 5th to plate 5 more run. Leo Melanson (2 for 3) doubled and scored as highlights for Arts were hard to find Home Runs: Jeff Fuller Winning Pitcher Losing Pitcher Bob Lemieux Ted Theos

06/12/2017 Global beats Joks 8-4 Global had a big 4 run 1st inning keyed by Butch Dunham's (2 for 2, SF) triple. Global score 2 more in the 2nd on Gary Boyle's double. In the 6th, Butch Dunham's 2nd triple (where’s the oxygen tank) plated Rich Rosen (2 for 2, BB) Jok's Mike Albano (2 for 3) doubled and scored in the 6th. In the 7th, Jok’s Paul Valdanbrini single drove in 2 runs but it was too little and too late. Winning Pitcher Losing Pitcher Rich Rosen Steve Stitt

  • 06/14/2017 Leathernecks score early and often, beat Calvary 12-4 Deerfield jumped out to a fast 4-0 lead as Peter Olson walked, Larry Kittle, Jeff Porter and Wally Hedland all singled and score. In the 7th, Rich Tessier added some frosting to the cake with a double over the outfielder's head. Calvary's scoring came in the 4th when Frank Willey singled, Greg Gougian tripled and Paul Berard's liner landed just inside the leftfield line for a double. Winning Pitcher Losing Pitcher Ron Lewis Frank Willey

06/14/2017 Art's top Dr Dionne's 8-6 in 8 innings Things started off well for Dionne's as Thom Riley (2 for 4) led off and scored with a triple, in the 1st inning. In the 2nd, Joe Richards doubled, Harold Murphy singled and both scored on Thom Riley's single. When Dan Birck tripled, and scored in the third to make the score 5-0, it looked like the rout was on. After being quiet for most of the game, Arts exploded for 4 runs as Ed Jaracz (2 for 3), Jim Edwards, (3 for 3) Jerry Ferullo (2 for 4) and Jeff Porter all doubled. In the 8th, "working class hero" Jerry Ferullo tripled to drive in 2 runs and later scored on Ralph Murphy's single Winning Pitcher Losing Pitcher Ted Theos Thom Riley

06/14/2017 Hanson’s hang on, beat M&N 8-6 In the top of the 1st, Steve Coco (3 for 4) and Nappy Napolitano (2 for 4) singled and scored on Bob Lemieux's double. M&N answered with 2 of their own as Charlie Howe (2 for 3) singled, Don Kasper (2 for 3) doubled and scored on Keith Bininger single. In the 2nd, speedy Miles Page and Paul Poisson singled and scored on Hank Frkanec's single. In the 5th Nappy singled and scored on Jeff Fuller's base hit. In the 6th, now trailing 8-4, M&N rallied for 2 runs when Joe Richards (2 for 3) and Frank Sommer (3 for 4) singled and scored on Charlie Howe's single. In the 7th, M&N put a scare to Hanson’s (were they thinking about that 10-run meltdown from the previous game?) when the bottom of M&N's lineup put together 5 singles to score 2 runs. A fly out ended the game leaving the bases loaded. Winning Pitcher Losing Pitcher Bob Lemieux Charlie Howe

06/14/2017 IMEC doubles up on Pine Street 12-6 IMEC is to playing good Defense again after only a one-game absence. It certainly helped to have Mitch Milewski and Rusty Schwarzenberg (3 for 3) back. Rusty ran down a long fly ball in the 1st inning to kill a Pine St. rally at 3 Runs, as well as their hopes of putting the game away early. Dick Gillespie (2 for 4) made another fine play later on and Al LaMontagne (2 for 3) initiated a double play from his SF position to again keep them in check. Rusty Schwartzberg hit a 2-Run Homer in the bottom of the 1st and added a Single and a bases-clearing Triple later in the game. What’s the call Ump?

0 out, runner on 2nd base. Batter hits a swinging bunt down the 3rd base line. The

3rd base man hoping the ball rolls fouls watches it roll into fair territory along the

line. Before touching third base, the runner from 2nd accidentally kicks the ball.

    What’s the call?

Even though the 3rd baseman had plenty of time to field the ball, it didn’t pass him.

The runner from 2nd is out. The batter should be put on 1st base. The ball was dead

    when the runner kicked it.

Which two batters hold the record for most Home Runs (38) in Fenway Park by a

    visiting player? (Answer below)

On this special Fathers Day, we’d like to wish all of you a very Happy Birthday.—New York
