Saulsberry [email protected]: WSTFPhone: (505) 524-5518Proposal No.: Assigned by Proposal SystemIf VCS, Standards Developing Org: N/AStart: February 2000Deliver to NTSPO: August 2006Task Description: Develop NASA Pyrovalve Applications and Testing Handbook to help ensure spacecraft safety and mission success.

STATUS REPORT FOR STANDARD IN DEVELOPMENTNASA-STD-5013 Pyrovalve Application and Performance Handbook

Date: June 2007

Accomplishments- Draft Handbook incorporating comments of NASA pyrotechnic and

AIAA TC was transmitted to Paul Gill (Oct. 2005)- Document was reformatted as a NASA HDBK by the Technical

Standards editor and WSTF reviewed it to verify accuracy.- Issuing is with Marshall - The NESC is reacting to new failures of 4 ground test Pyrovalves that

have a serious impact on several Planetary vehicles using the valve- The NESC is doing extensive new testing at WSTF, other Centers, and

industry to understand and resolve the booster ignition issues- Approximately 1-2 copies per week is being requested from WSTF,

who is providing the WSTF version.

Plans- Address Marshall comments- Start updates to incorporate a large volume of data being developed by

the NESC Pyrovalve Ignition Failure Investigation issue/resolution highly recommended. Updates with NESC findings required to help ensure spacecraft safety.

- Complete incorporation of extensive data and updates from the NESC Pyrovalve Ignition on Failure Investigation

- Modify document such as for release as AIAA standard if desired

Issues- Need to get current version issued- Need to update current version once issued to reflect new

failures- FY07 – 20K required- FY08 - 20K required
