AN INTERVIEW WITH A SUPERSTAROn Monday 22nd February, Jad Harris travelled to Tam-worth to compete for a position on the North West Ten-nis Team. After successfully being selected, we decided to sit down and chat with our very own tennis superstar. How long have you been playing tennis and how did you learn? I’ve been playing since I was 6 years old, so around the last 5 years. I do holiday clinics, the ones advertised in the newsletter, and I also do lessons each week on a Monday and Wednesday with Shane Murphy. He’s a funny coach and he really gets you going and helps you do your best. What do you love about tennis and what’s your favour-ite swing? I love that it’s fun and active. My favourite shot is the serve and I’ve managed to get lots of aces in my games. Who’s your favourite tennis star? Dominic Thiem. He’s an Austrian tennis player (In March 2020 he was ranked No.3 in the world). Where are you off to next? We head to Newcastle on the 27th of April. I’m really excited. If you get first you can be chosen to play inter-state, but I’m really just looking forward to having fun and playing with new people.

THANK YOU AUNTIE PATTIE AND WHITEHAVENLast week, Auntie Pattie put together a submis-sion for a funding grant that is designed to build community connections and share culture within our community. It has always been Auntie Pat-tie’s dream to share her love of culture through language and dance in our wider community. Her passion is highly valued by our students and our whole school community and through this pas-sion we have seen our students learn about the Gamilaroi totems through dance, the language of common items and areas in our local commu-nity, and learn to sing known songs in language. Traditional practices and the importance of Wel-come to Country have also been a cornerstone of our students’ cultural education. Narrabri Public school is committed to developing this shared understanding of Aboriginal culture and fostering our older students to become role-models for our younger students; instilling in them the value of being future leaders of their community. The generous Whitehaven grant will go towards culturally enriching products including books, yarning mats and performance materials, as well as supporting our students to attend cultural camps and excursions, bring in visiting perfor-mances and speakers, and make our 2021 NAI-DOC celebrations one to remember!
