THE LIBRARY CORNERThank you to many of our students who reg-ularly borrow and return library books. We have noticed that some books that went home during the Covid-19 lockdown have not come back yet; some might also be hiding in classrooms. Mrs Whan is going to give a PBL raffle ticket to every student for every book that they return until next week. This is to help encourage students to take responsibility and care for our school resources. Mrs Whan and Mrs Scott have been busy choosing a wide variety of new books to suit all students in our school, so students are encouraged to pop in and have a browse.Books of the WeekMiss Kane recommends...The Magic Faraway Tree, by Enid BlytonMiss Smith recommends...Treasure Island, by Robert Louis Stevenson
PREMIERS READING CHALLENGEThe Challenge is quickly drawing to a close, with a little over a month left before all student entries are to be fi-nalised. Closing dates for the 2020 Challenge are as fol-lows:Friday August 28: Final date for entry of Student Reading Records by students.Friday September 11: Final date for validation of Student Reading Records by coordinators. To avoid possible issues with site congestion on these dates, we encourage you to finalise entries as early as possible. This will allow us time to resolve any issues that may arise before the system is closed for the 2020 Chal-lenge. If you have any questions please see Mrs Whan.
CHECK IN ASSESSMENTS YEAR 5Next week our students in year 5 will undertake a literacy and numeracy online assessment. The check in assessment will supplement our existing ‘in school’ assessment practices and help teachers to tailor their teaching to students learning needs. Each as-sessment consists of 40 multiple choice questions.
YAAMAACKNOWLEDGEMENT
I would like to acknowledge the traditional owners and custodians of the land I work on as the first people of this country. I would also like to pay respect to Elders past and present of the Gamilaraay Nation and extend that respect to all youth today, as they are our future generation.
These students are demonstrating respect-ful and inclusive behav-iour through their turn taking and sharing. Thumbs up everyone.
