    /n 196-, at the height of the Second orld ar, Napoleon A&ue(a &ecame an unwilling (ictim of theatrocities of the +apanese$ ith his father, a leader in the underground mo(ement, and his mother in thewomens Au@iliar' group, the famil' was hunted$ %is parents were captured, tortured, and killed in !alencia$*ill' was then onl' 16 'ears old, &ut this did not spare him from the &rutalit' of the in(aders$ %eaccompanied his grandmother to /la'a, uero where the' were captured &' some +apanese soldiers$ %isgrandmother was later freed, &ut he was hogtied, &rought to 4uindulman, and tortured for more than aweek$ %e lost his front teeth, and the &lue&lack marks on his wrists and ankles took weeks to heal$ G1H
