Introduction NanoTechnology – Art and science of
manipulating atoms and molecules to create new systems, materials, and devices.
One nanometer (nm) is one billionth, or 10−9, of a meter.
Another way to visualize a nanometer: 1 inch = 25,400,000 nanometers

Nanotechnology InitiativesUS, Japan, and Germany dominate the current
R&D effort in nanotechnology with a focus on their own expertise and needs.
Through its National Nanotechnology Initiative, the USA has invested 3.7 billion dollars. The European Union has invested 1.2 billion and Japan 750 million dollars
Starting in 2001 the Government of India launched the Nano Science and Technology Initiative (NSTI).

In 2007 the Nanoscience and Technology Mission 2007 was initiated with an allocation of Rupees 1000 crores for a period of five years.
The Department of Science and Technology (DST) is the chief agency engaged in the development of nanotechnology.
Overall GoI has invested approximately $400 million so far in creating capacity for nanotechnology research in the country.

A group of Indian Americans professionals have launched The Indus Nanotech Association (TINA).
This group will provide a platform for Indian-origin and India-based nanotechnology researchers, technologists, entrepreneurs and investors to exchange ideas, and provide networking opportunities to advance the field and create new areas of business.

Issues & Threats Patents applicability:- It is generally accepted that the properties of
matter and other fundamental scientific discoveries are not patentable.
In order to secure a patent, the invention must be "any new and useful process, machine, manufacture, or composition of matter, or any new and useful improvement thereof.
04/08/2023 IABM,Bikaner 22
Legal issues:- Nanotechnology is likely to produce a great deal
of debate for government regulation
The goal of this debate would be to achieve a balance between comprehensive regulation, focused regulation, and, in some instances, no regulation.

Environmental:- Nanotechnology-based agents for crop destruction
Military Applications
Grey Goo(Eric Drexler)
04/08/2023 IABM,Bikaner 24
Health & Safety Issues:-Toxicity studies using mice and rats suggest that
certain nanomaterials could be more toxic than quartz
The transformed nanomaterials may modify atmospheric, soil, or water chemistry
These transfomations may alter the form of the nanomaterials to which humans and ecosystems are exposed and which are transported through the environment

ConclusionThere is need to do research work in the field of
nanotechnology by India to withstand against the developed countries
In order to ensure the safe use of nanomaterials and the concomitant benefits, it is necessary to lay the legal and methodological foundations for evaluating the long-term effects of nanotechnology on man and the environment
