I encourage people to introduce themselves and get to know the many new wonderful families who have joined this amazing community. A strength of our community is the recognised warmth and generosity in welcoming others. Well done to the keen students who have been arriving early to train for the upcoming Cross Country at the start of next term. Just a reminder that students should not be arriving early to school unless pre-arranged for a specific purpose and parents must ensure a teacher is present before students are dropped off. The first bus arrives around 8:40am and this is a reasonable time for students to arrive. A teacher is not on duty until 8:50am in the morning. All students must be seated in the assembly area until the teacher comes on duty. Good luck to our two debating teams heading to Lowanna tomorrow. We hope they have a wonderful day. Thank you to the parents who are transporting students to this event. Have a great week! Mrs D. Nicholls

28th March 2017 Term 1 - Week 10

Welcome to week 10. Only two weeks before the end of term and many things are happening before our students get a well-earned rest.

It was wonderful to see many new faces at the P&C meeting yesterday. Thank you to Shelley Chambers who is now our new Treasurer and Cherrie Jakovich who is our Fundraising Co-ordinator. Thanks to everyone else who is keen to help the team. Sounds like we have another great year ahead of us!

The following P&C events need your support:

o Easter Raffle tickets – All tickets sold support our P&C fundraising efforts. There is a prize draw for students who have sold tickets in the raffle.

o P&C Community Breakfast. The P&C are looking for donations of eggs for the breakfast as well as helpers on the day to cook the BBQ breakfast. The P&C are offering Egg and Bacon rolls plus Hot Cross Buns (fruit and fruitless). We look forward to seeing as many people as possible on this morning.

Home Reading Home Reading is an important part of student development in Reading. When children see adults reading and share their reading with others they see that reading is valued and enjoyed. This is part of the idea behind the Home Reading Program. This reading time is for enjoyment, and a time of sharing. With this in mind parents will see that the reader sent home is often read with ease and may only require minimal assistance. Readers focused on in class are always at a higher level where explicit teaching occurs on skills required by good readers. So we encourage parents to assist us by fostering the love of reading at home and don’t be alarmed if the book happens to be read with ease as this is intentional.

125 Years This year Nana Glen Public School has been open for 125 years. The P&C have many exciting items planned for the year and helpers would be appreciated. Watch future newsletters for more details. One item we would like to add to our newsletter is photos, stories etc that illustrate the history of Nana Glen Public School. If you have an item we can share in our newsletter, please either send in a copy or email a copy of the item. It can be wonderful seeing items from our past.

What’s going well in Kindergarten Kindergarten students have been working really hard during literacy groups this term. Each group completes 5 different activities (related to reading, sight words, sounds, letters and fine motor development) during our daily rotations. I am so proud of how much they are learning and growing every week. Mrs Daniel.

Volunteers for our Sight word Program We are still looking for parents who would be keen to come in to the school to assist with our sight word program across the school. If you are interested, please send your details into Mrs Nicholls. I have had two offers of assistance for this program and thank you to those two parents. School Banking School banking day is every Wednesday. Please place your yellow bank book in the tub provided at the front office. Book Covering Thank you to Mrs Pobjoy who has been covering books for us. This is a wonderful help to us.

Donations Needed The upcoming Easter Raffle will be on us before we know it. This is a very successful fundraising event for the P&C and if you have donations of eggs or Easter items, please drop them into the school office. Lost Property We have a lot of lost property at the office, if you are missing lunch containers or uniform items please come and see if some of this is yours. We will need to dispose of the lunch containers if they are not collected by the end of the week. Student Medication We are finding that students are bringing medication to school to be administered by our office staff without a note giving our staff permission to administer the medication. If your child needs to have medication administered at school you will need to send a note or complete a form at the office. Student Electronic Devices There are an increasing number of students bringing electronic devices to school. We are asking parents to assess if it is necessary that they bring them to school. If your child brings a device to school it must be handed into the office in the morning and collected in the afternoon. The school takes no responsibility for the device if it is lost, stolen or damaged. Scope IT Coding Club Scope IT is wishing to offer an after school Coding Club next term. This program is run by the Scope IT company and does not have anything to do with the school. We are just providing the space for the program to operate so that students in our area can access this without driving into town. A general information flyer is in our community news section. The first Coding club will start on the 26th April (Week 1 next term) and will run until the 24th May (week 5). Coding Club will run for 2hr weekly sessions from 3:30 – 5:30 each Wednesday afternoon. To book, please visit ciy.club/events/ and then look for the event at Nana Glen Public School.

P&C Newsletter P&C News Was great to see many new faces at our P&C meeting yesterday! Hopefully the new time of 3:30 in the afternoon is much more helpful to our parents. Thank you to Sarah and Lily for watching over the younger students while parents attended the meeting. Our next meeting is on Monday the 8th May at 3;30pm.

It is also wonderful to announce that we have filled two more roles; Shelley Chambers is our Treasurer and Cherrie Jakovich is our Fundraising co-ordinator. Cherrie also has a nice team of supporters to help her with the fundraising role.

Thank you to those parents who have already donated to the Easter Raffle. If anyone still has donations at home, these would be greatly appreciated. Also thank you to all the families and students who are selling raffle tickets. More tickets are available at the office and we have a special draw for students who have sold and returned tickets to the office.

The P&C is running a breakfast on the last day of term and we are looking for helpers to cook and serve on the day, as well as donations of eggs for the egg and bacon rolls. We look forward to seeing as many families as possible on this day. A pre-order form will come out this week.

Canteen news There will be no chocolate Sippah straws this term. We only have choc mint, strawberry and cookies and cream. The canteen is open on a Monday if students would like to order lunch. If you have volunteered to bake and are unable to please let the office know the day before. Thank you for your support.
