Compare and Contrast
Read the following compare and contrast piece about two dinosaurs. In the boxes, write a word to show what the paragraph is doing.
Apatosaurus vs. Triceratops
Dinosaurs lived millions of years ago. Some dinosaurs were extremely small, while others were ginormous. Many ate plants, while others ate meat. This report will compare and contrast two of the most popular dinosaurs. It will present information about the Apatosaurus and the Triceratops.
There were some similarities between the Apatosaurus and the Triceratops. The fossils of both dinosaurs have been found in North America, so they lived in the same area. Both dinosaurs were also herbivores. This means they only ate plants, such as the leaves from trees. The Apatosaurus and the Triceratops were both quadrupeds. This means they walked on all four legs. You can see both of these dinosaurs in museums today.
There were some differences between the Apatosaurus and the Triceratops. One that surprises many people is that the Apatosaurus became extinct before the Triceratops appeared. The Apatosaurus lived 150 million years ago, but the Triceratops lived 65 million years ago. Their appearances were also very different. The Apatosaurus had a long whip-like tail and a large, long neck. It could grow to 23 meters long. However, the Triceratops was much shorter. It was only 9 meters long and it had a large bony frill with three horns on its head. These differences were obvious.
As you can see, there were similarities and differences between the Apatosaurus and the Triceratops. Perhaps you can think of a few more you can add. Dinosaurs were an amazing animal that people still like to write about. I hope you learned something interesting.
