Name of the programme: Ozone Day Celebration

Date: 13.09.2016, 14.09.2016, Seminar Hall

Brief description of the programme : Ozone day was celebrated in September 2016 by the

Department of Chemistry and ENCON sponsored by with Kerala State Council for Science

Technology and Environment (KSCSTE) ,Govt. of Kerala. An invited talk, painting competition,

PPT competition, quiz etc. were organised in connection with Ozone day celebration. Baiju K P,

,Asst Professor ,Department of Chemistry, Bharathmata College,Thrikkakara was the resource

person for the programme. Students and faculty members from various departments participated

in the programme and made it’s a grant success.

Name of the programme : Protect Mangalavanam(The lung of Kochi city) Campaign at

Mangalavanam

Date & venue: 03.10.2016, Mangalavanam

Wildlife Week is celebrated all over the country in the month of October from 2nd

to 8th

October

every year with the view to preserve the fauna. The day was celebrated by the students and

faculty of Department of Chemistry of St. Paul's College, Kalamassery by visiting the

Mangalavanam is an ecologically sensitive area situated at the centre of Kochi city.

Managalavanam is often regarded as the "green lung of Kochi", considering its role in keeping

the city's air pollution under check. This extension activity was in collaboration with the

Chemistry club of the college. Students and teachers jointly took the pledge to protect our

environment and also cleaned the premises of the Mangalavanam.

Name of the programme : Visit to ISRO – SPACE EXPO

Date & venue: 04.10.2016, ISRO – SPACE EXPO Hall, Ernakulam

Brief description of the programme: The student of first year along with two faculty members

visited the space expo organized by ISRO which helped them to gather elementary knowledge

about space science and their applications. The objective of the visit is to develop a scientific

aptitude in girls and to familiarize them with the various opportunities which could be grabbed

by them in the space field.

Name of the programme : Wetland Day Celebration

Date & venue: 04.02.2017, 09.02.2017, St.Paul’s College Campus and Kadamakkudy, Cherai.

Brief description of the programme :. The program was organized by the Dept. of Chemistry, St.

Paul's College, Co-ordinated by Asst. Prof. Mr. Texin Joseph, ably guided by Dr. Rose Philo,

Dept Head and Dr.V J Peter, Principal, St. Paul's College on the theme “Wetlands for Disaster

Risk Reduction”. The agenda of the program was to make awareness about the importance of the

wetlands and its protection. Resource person of the event, Dr. Martin, Post Doctoral Fellow ,

KUFOS, Panangad gave a talk on the importance and necessity of protection of wetlands wa. A

field visit was arranged to Kadamakudy and Njarakkal wet land area followed by the talk for

selected students. It gave a live experience to realise the importance of wetlands and had

broaden the knowledge of the team. It loaded the students with both knowledge and

pleasure. Being released in close touch with the nature, it was capable to get along with bustle of

our life learning ,the importance of nature.

Brief description of the programme : As a part of Oil and Gas conservation Fort night (OGCF)

observation all over india, The Department of Chemistry in association with ENCON CLUB of

St.Pauls College celebrated the same, Saksham 2017 in a benefitting manner to make the

students aware about the need and importance of energy conservation .An oil and gas

conservation pledge was taken by the students. The club also conducted quiz, essay writing and

painting (Theme: Hungry Earth) competitions for the students as a part of OGCF -2017

celebrations. Cash prize and merit certificates were issued by BPCL, Kochi.
