A message from the Principal
Welcome to Nagle Catholic College.
At Nagle, the key partnership is the one which exists between the student, family and the school with the key goal being the success of the student. Great partnerships are built upon mutual respect, good communication and an understanding of the importance of working together. This helps to foster the wellbeing of all, enhance school spirit and promote a culture of being ‘For Others’.
As the Principal of the College, I undertake to do the following:1. I will do everything I can to ensure that Nagle is a safe and friendly environment.2. I will encourage the teachers to be the best teachers they can be so that the students have every opportunity to grow as a person.3. I will listen to the Student Leadership Council to ensure that we have a good balance between working hard and having fun.
For their part, the students of the College undertake to show respect by carrying out the following:1. We will show respect for ourselves by the way we wear our uniform, display our good manners, adopt a positive personality and care for ourselves in a healthy manner.2. We will show respect for others through our behaviour in the classroom and other Nagle activities.3. We will show respect for the Nagle Catholic environment by showing care and concern for others and by using resources in the appropriate manner.
Many students find Secondary School to be a wonderful time in their life. There are many opportunity and activities in which to become involved. I encourage all students to have a go in the many experiences which Nagle has to offer.
The College motto, ‘For Others’, encourages our students to explore the meaningful contribution their education will enable and empower them to make, in their journey through life.

About Nagle
On 11 February 1994, Bishop Justin Bianchini commissioned Nagle Catholic College as a Catholic school within the Diocese of Geraldton.
While the life of the College formally commenced on that day, its story goes back a lot further – to 1891, in fact, when Stella Maris College was opened by the Presentation Sisters. Some 35 years later, in 1926, St Patrick’s College was opened by the Christian Brothers. For the ensuring 68 years, these two boarding schools continued to cater for the educational needs of the young women and men of Geraldton and its surrounding areas.
Nano Nagle, from whom the College takes its name, founded the Presentation Sisters in Ireland in 1775. Their work was to offer the girls the education, formation and care which was at that time available only to those of the higher reaches of society. Inspired by their work, Edmund Rice founded the Christian Brochures in 1808.

School CrestThe basis of the crest is the Celtic Cross. The cross is the most recognisable symbol of Christianity and its basis is God’s unconditional love for us. This Celtic form of the cross reminds us of the Irish origins of our founding Orders. The star represents Mary, Star of the Sea, patroness of Stella Maris College. The star was also the central device in the crest of St Patrick’s College.

A-ZAbsencesStudents are expected to attend school and participate fully in all College activities from 8:30am – 3:10pm each school day. Occasionally absences occur and parents/guardians are asked to follow the procedures below.
Absences due to illness or unexpected family or personal problemsNon-attendance can be resolved in a number of ways. For absences no longer than two consecutive school days please contact the College before 9.00am by:• SMS: 0408 018 103; • Call: 9920 0500 and select Option 1 • Email: [email protected]
An automated message is sent to the family of any student who is absent without explanation.
Absences longer than two consecutive school days, please contact the College by email [email protected] and include: • Parent/Guardian name• Student name and Home Room• Details of the absence, including the length and reason, and an expected date of when the student will return to the College.For frequent periods of absence, or if an illness is ongoing, the College may require medical certificates.
Absence for personal or social reasonsIf a parent/guardian would like their child to be absent for any reason other than illness, they are required to contact the Deputy Principal - Students or the Principal to discuss the matter and supply written notification for the absence stating the reason, and an expected date of when the student will return to the College.
Absence for part of a dayIf a student is going to be absent from the College during any part of the school day, or need to leave early for reasons such as a medical or dental appointment, a written request from a parent/guardian is required to be handed to their class teacher to be able to be excused from class. Students are to be collected from Reception. Staff will request identification to verify that the person collecting the student has authority to do so. If a student is leaving with someone that isn’t on their contact list or walking/driving themselves, parents/guardians need to call or provide a permission note for them to leave.
Late arrivalsAny student who arrives at the beginning of Home Room or is more than 10 minutes late for a class is to report to the Presentation Centre or Reception to sign in. Students will require a note from their parents/guardians as to the reason they are late. The College will send a SMS to advise parents/guardians that the student was late.
Assessments and ExamsThere are a variety of assessment items to complete during the year in each subject. These include written tests, orals, assignments and practical tests.
Exam BlockExams are held in the Study Hall, specialist rooms at the College or at the Catholic Centre at the end of each Semester for students in Years 10 to 12. Year 12 students also have a one week exam block in Term 3. Students in Years 11 and 12 are required to attend school only for their particular exam and may study at home or in the Library/Study Room when they do not have exams scheduled. Years 9 and 10 students are to be at school each day during exam block.
Parents/Guardians should notify the College immediately if, for any reason, a student is unable to attend an exam. A medical certificate will be required in Years 11 and 12. Students must see their Director of Students as soon as possible

upon their return to school at which time examination considerations will be discussed.
Students in Years 7, 8 and 9 do not have set exam blocks.
Behaviour ExpectationsOur Student Code of Conduct is a set of guidelines for behaviour which seeks to establish at the College, a harmonious environment in which our true growth as individuals can occur, and which is conducive to the pursuit of excellence in all fields. All members of Nagle’s community will show their pride in belonging to this unique community by the generous manner in which they observe this Code, and by the manner in which they wear the uniform, the public sign of their membership of the community.
Consideration for others is a very high priority at Nagle. Every student has an equal right to the attention of the teacher, and to enjoy the school day free from unnecessary stress and pressure. To this end it is expected that all students will treat each other in a courteous and respectful manner both in class and in their leisure activities during the day. Students can show their respect and consideration for others by being aware of the less obvious members of their classes and groups, and ensuring that they too are included in all activities.
A copy of the Student Code of Conduct can be found on our website (www.ncc.wa.edu.au/policies). Please read this carefully for a clear understanding of Nagle’s expectations.
Boarding – Residential CollegeBoarding students are accommodated at the Geraldton Residential College, located a short 10 minute walk from the Nagle campus.
Our Boarding House Liaison Officer, Mr Rohan Fariss, regularly meets with the boarding students and spends time with them at the boarding facility. Our College Counsellor, Ms Grace Youngs also visits the Boarding House on a regular basis. Students and parents/guardians are encouraged to chat to Mr Fariss regarding any boarding matters.
BooklistsBooklists can be found on our website (www.ncc.wa.edu.au/booklists). The new lists will be emailed to families during Term 4 of the preceding year. Book orders need to be placed directly with Ziggies.
Bring your own Device (Laptop/Tablet) The College has a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program with all students in Years 7 to 12 asked to bring their own device. The College recommends that students use 2-in-1 laptop/tablets. Please refer to the website for information on Devices (www.ncc.wa.edu.au/bring-your-own-device).
Having devices in the classroom allows students to take an active role in learning; investigate a wide range of topics; access a wealth of facts and information and view engaging and interactive resources.
Managing Devices at the CollegeStudents are expected to be ready to learn with their devices. This includes:• Having a fully charged device• Avoiding damage to the device• Having an understanding of how to use the main features of their device• Storing the device safely when not in use i.e. in student locker• Using the device responsibly

Student ExpectationsTeachers will instruct students when devices are required and the type of task students should be completing during that time. Students are expected to follow teacher instructions. Records of misuse may be recorded and passed on to the Director of Students.
ICT Responsible Use Policy Information and Communication Technology (ICT) exists at Nagle as tools for learning, teaching and communication. The College recognises that ICT provides a significant educational value but also poses a risk of exposure to inappropriate and offensive material and personal safety.
ICT resources include:• Computer hardware (laptops, personal computers, iPads)• Software (programs, apps)• Systems and technology (including the College network, Internet and email)• Telecommunications devices (mobile phones)
Such resources may be provided by the school or connect or interact with resources that are owned by students for use at school.
Students accept personal responsibility for reporting any misuse or abuse of the College network. Misuse and abuse may include (but is not limited to) any content sent or received related to cyber-bullying, pornography, unethical or illegal solicitation, racism, sexism or inappropriate language. Students need to be aware that a breach of school ICT policy may also form a breach of State and Federal laws.
The use of the College network and the internet at Nagle is a privilege, not a right, and inappropriate use may result in a temporary or permanent cancellation of those privileges.

Cyber SafetyThrough a variety of programs, students are educated in the concepts of Cyber Safety which begin in Year 7 Computing, with an informative look at appropriate online behaviour and management of devices.
Concepts relating to appropriate behaviour online are reinforced through schooling for students via Pastoral Care Programs, classroom behaviour management as well as in the Health and Religious Education curriculum areas.
Students are not permitted to access social media at the College. The College has a ‘red flag’ system in place. This is managed autonomously, i.e. by software. Should students access inappropriate materials or content which indicate they are at risk, an alert may be triggered and sent to the appropriate Director of Students. Parents/Guardians will be contacted if the students’ searches are of concern.
CanteenThe Canteen is located across from the Science block and serves a range of nutritious meal items, which are freshly prepared on the premises by our kitchen staff. Lunch orders are to be placed before school starts. The Canteen is open at Break 1 and Break 2. Students are asked to queue and pay (no credits). The Canteen menu can be found on the College website.
Students are invited to come along to the Nagle Breakfast Club from 8:00am to 8:25am on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays in the Faith and Life area, entry via Room 318. Students are able to prepare breakfast for themselves from a variety of items purchased by the College.

Tours/ExcursionsFor each school excursion, camp or field trip, a letter with a permission slip will be emailed for parent/guardian information, approval and payment (if required). If parents/guardians do not wish their child to attend an excursion, they should notify the College.

Complaints Resolution and ProcedureThe College has a Dispute and Complaint Resolution Policy to ensure that student, parent/guardian, employee or other stakeholder complaints are dealt with in a responsive, efficient, effective, transparent and fair way.
The College will act to encourage students, parents/guardians and employees to contribute to a school culture where complaints are resolved with as little formality and disruption as possible.
A complaint may be communicated initially by a phone call, written letter, email or meeting. Issues should be raised in the first instance as follows:• Students with their Head of House or Director of Students• Students or parents/guardians with academic complaints, first with the class teacher, and then with the Head of Learning Area• Parents/Guardians and volunteers with the relevant member of staff overseeing the area of concern or with the Deputy Principal or Vice Principal• Principal

Contact DetailsIf your contact details change (address, telephone numbers, email, emergency contacts etc.) please advise the College as soon as possible. This can be done by completing an Update Contact Details form.
For any changes to health details, please complete a Student Health Care Summary and speak with the staff in the Presentation Centre.
Both forms can be found on our website (www.ncc.wa.edu.au/forms), at the Presentation Centre and Reception or they can be emailed to you on request. Please send completed forms to [email protected] or hand in to Reception.
Daily RoutinesArrivals and DeparturesThe school day commences at 8:30am. The grounds are supervised from 8:15am, and until the last bus leaves at 3:30pm.

Home RoomThe school day begins with Home Room. The Home Room teacher will mark the roll, read out the Daily Notices and hand out any forms and information. This is also a time for general discussion about school issues. Home Room starts at 8:30am and concludes at 8:50am.
MessagesDuring the school day, parents/guardians may phone the College and ask Reception to give a message to their child. Reception staff will do their best to ensure that a student receives the message, however, this cannot be guaranteed due to a number of factors.
Classroom during breaksStudents may not use classrooms during Break 1, Break 2, and before or after school unless they are under the supervision of a teacher. Food must not be eaten in classrooms and all rubbish must be placed in the bins.

Hot Weather ProcedureThe College does not close because of hot weather. All classrooms and General Purpose Learning Areas across the College are air conditioned. Students are encouraged to seek shelter in the Gymnasium or under shaded areas. Students are also encouraged to bring a water bottle to class with them.
Wet Weather Procedure (Break 1/Break 2)When it is extremely wet or windy/thunderstorms:1. The Study Hall will be available for students to sit in.2. The Library will be open. 3. The Gymnasium will be open. Shoes off the carpet, limited students allowed on the courts, others may go in to the Dance Studio or G1classroom.4. Students are able to sit on Level 1 and Level 2 verandahs, and the Presentation Centre verandah.5. Teachers can open up their classrooms at their discretion.
Edmund Rice Learning CentreThe Edmund Rice Learning Centre is open from 8:00am – 4:00pm Monday to Friday including Break 2, but closed at Break 1. Students are expected to behave in a quiet, courteous manner when in the Library and leave the area tidy and ready for the next class. Food and drinks are generally not allowed except on special occasions.
The Library homepage (www.edmundricelibrary.weebly.com) displays information about the Library and gives access to various online databases, citation tools, and virtual reference material, as well as the Library Catalogue (Oliver). The password to these pages is available via SEQTA, Library staff or your teachers. Students are encouraged to talk with Library staff about borrowing details and if they need help with using any of the search/catalogue facilities. Library staff are keen to help all students develop useful library and research skills.

PhotocopierPrinting and photocopying is available in the Library with the use of student cards.

EmergenciesEvacuation ProceduresIn any emergency where buildings must be evacuated, students will hear an evacuation siren and their teacher will direct the class to the Basketball courts. Students must assemble in their Home Room group, as soon as they reach the Basketball courts. A class roll will be marked by the Home Room teacher. Students are to remain in their Home Room until directed to return to the classroom.
Lockdown ProcedureIn case of an emergency where there is a dangerous situation on the school grounds, an emergency siren will alert staff and students. During lesson times, students will remain with their subject teacher in the classroom. Should the emergency siren be sounded during Breaks, students will immediately move to the nearest classroom/secure area where they will be met by a teacher.
EventsA number of important events are held each year. Some are for parents/guardians to attend because they provide opportunities for parents/guardians to discuss the progress of their child or to learn more about the programs offered. Other events are for parents/guardians and students. These events celebrate the achievements of students.
AssemblyAn all-school Assembly is held approximately every four weeks on a Wednesday. Students are seated in their House and Home Room groups. During Assembly, staff and students present information on a variety of matters and congratulate students or teams who have won awards.
Interhouse CompetitionsAll students have the opportunity to participate in the Interhouse competitions which are held throughout the year. The sports include Swimming, Cross Country and Athletics.
Commissioning CeremonyThe Commissioning Assembly of the forthcoming Student Leadership Council is held in Term 4 of the preceding year. The College and invited guests attend this special event in the Bishop Justin Bianchini Gymnasium. During the Assembly, the Head Girl, Head Boy, House Captains, Ministry Captains and Cultural Ambassadors are presented with their badges.
Induction of SeniorsThe induction of Senior students is held at the beginning of Term 1 as part of the Founders’ Day Mass. The Heads of House present Senior badges to students who are in their House group.
Principal’s Ball for Year 12 studentsYear 12 students are invited to attend the Principal’s Ball in Term 1 each year held at the Queen Elizabeth II Centre.
Seniors’ FarewellThe final event on the calendar for the Seniors is the Year 12 Mass, held in St Francis Xavier Cathedral, and Graduation, held in our College Bishop Justin Bianchini Gymnasium, at the start of Term 4. Families are invited to attend both events.
Year 7 Information Night An Information Night for parents/guardians of Year 7 students is held early in Term 1. Families are provided with important information regarding the College.

Year 11 Subject Selection (for current Year 10 students) Information evenings are held in Term 2 of the preceding year and provide parents/guardians and students with critical information about subjects for the following years. Speakers will discuss important information about different pathways to employment and tertiary study. This is a great opportunity for students and their parents/guardians to talk to teachers about senior subjects.
Parent-Student-Teacher (PST) MeetingsParent-student-teacher meetings are held in Semester 1 and Semester 2. Parents/Guardians are able to make their bookings online through the Parent Teacher Online (PTO) system via our website (www.ncc.wa.edu.au/pto)
Pastoral Care Period (PCP)The PCP takes each Wednesday and houses our Assemblies and other whole school events. It is also an opportunity for students to meet as a House or as a Year group and participate in activities that enhance their self esteem and wellness. Protective behaviours programs such as the mandated Keeping Safe Child Protection Curriculum are also delivered during the PCP.
Presentation CeremonyAt the end of the year, the College has its most prestigious school event, the Presentation Ceremony. Prizes are presented to students who have excelled in academic, sporting, co-curricular and community service fields.
Academic honours are given to the top students in each Year group for each subject, based on academic results for the year. The top student in Year 12 is awarded the Dux of the College.
There are a number of special awards for leadership and community service, including the Cultural Contribution: The Sister Paschal McGauran Prize, The Declan Tanham Award Exceptional Student, and The Brother Warwick Bryant ‘For Other’s’ award.
Free DressOccasionally, the College may invite the students to take part in casual or fancy dress to promote special events within the school community, often in support of charitable causes.
Acceptable Dress • Tops need to cover midriff • Skirts or shorts, no shorter than mid-thigh
Unacceptable Dress • Strapless tops/dresses• Tops with very low cut fronts, cut-out sections, slits up the front or plunging backs• Transparent clothing, old or torn pants• Tank tops• Footwear - Thongs are not acceptable • T-shirts with inappropriate messages• If a student’s dress is unacceptable on a casual clothes day, the College will contact parents/guardians.
Health, Physical Education and SportStudents must wear the correct Nagle HPE uniform at all times. Every student is required to participate in all lessons. A note from home is expected when absence or illness prevents this from happening and a medical certificate will need to be provided for prolonged absence. A Nagle hat is necessary for all outdoor activities and sunscreen is readily available. Students attending Australian Catholic Colleges (ACC) events are required to purchase a Nagle representative shirt from the Uniform Shop.

HomeworkStudents are expected to attend their lessons each day and complete homework given by their teachers. Whilst set homework may not be given on a nightly basis by each subject teacher, students are expected to continue with their review of notes taken in class, revision of past units and work on assignments each night as part of their homework routine.
Homework is a necessary and important component of learning because it:• Enhances student outcomes• Encourages self discipline in working in an unsupervised unstructured environment• Consolidates course content• Is used to familiarise and prepare for forthcoming work• Allows unfinished classwork to be finished
The following are intended as a guide for the amount of total time expected of students to be spent on homework as well as study:• Year 7 - Up to one hour per night for five nights per week• Year 8 - Up to one and a half hours per night for five nights per week• Year 9 - One and a half hours per night for five nights per week• Year 10 - Two hours per night for five nights per week• Year 11 - Two and a half hours per night for five nights per week• Year 12 - Three or more hours per night for five nights per week
Prior to exam periods, students may spend additional time in revising past work.
On some nights, students may have homework and study that will take less time than the suggested guidelines. On the other hand, some students may spend more time on homework than the suggested guidelines.
What is classified as homework?• Written tasks (set by the teacher and a time given for completion)• Comprehension tasks (set by the teacher and a time given for completion)• Reading (set by a teacher and a time given for completion)• Reviewing notes taken in class (expected each day and not be set by the teacher). Revision tasks may be provided prior to tests and examinations• Research (may be set by the teacher or could be part of the student work on an assignment)• Practical learning (set by the teacher). This will cover practice problems in Mathematics, learning lines for Drama, learning facts and definitions, learning vocabulary etc.• Assignment and projects (once set, students and expected to work consistently for completion by the due date)
It is necessary to differentiate between homework and study.• Homework consists of those tasks that are directly set by the class teacher and usually relate to current class work• Study and revision refers to time spent revising parts of the course previously covered and consolidating knowledge in preparation for tests and examinations
TutoringThe College offers a successful tutoring program for our students during school hours and after school. Students should speak with their classroom teacher or the Head of Learning Area regarding the time and location.

House SystemEach Nagle student is allocated to a House grouping when commencing at the College. This forms the core component of our Pastoral Care program. Students who have or had siblings at the College will be placed in the same House. The House system encourages teamwork and friendly competition within a supportive environment.
There are eight different Houses. The six original College House names derive from the Bishops who served the people of the Geraldton Diocese. Two new Houses, commissioned in 2015, take their names from Stella Maris College and St Patrick’s College, the Colleges that amalgamated in 1994 to form Nagle Catholic College. The crests for the Houses are based on the symbols used on the Bishops’ crests and on traditional representations for Mary and St Patrick.
Bishop (Orange)The dominant symbol on Bishop Gummer’s crest is a sailing ship (barque) representing the Ship of Peter. The symbol of the ship represented the Church. The Ship will traverse many dangerous waters and pass through many trials but with Jesus (as Compass) all will arrive safely.
Foley (Black)The Dove and the ‘Mystical Rose’ are two of the symbols taken from Bishop Foley’s crest. The holy Spirit, coming as a dove, is gentle and a symbol of peace. The ‘Mystical Rose’ is one of the epithets used for Mary. The rose represented Mary’s quiet trust in God.
Kelly (Blue)The Tower is one of the features of Bishop Kelly’s crest. It is a symbol of the purity, beauty, and strength of Mary. The ‘Tower of David’ was the strongest tower in the wall of Jerusalem. The ‘Tower of Ivory’ is suggestive of peace and wealth. Mary is likened to both of these towers in the scriptures.
O’Collins (Red)The Bishop’s Mitre is one of the symbols featured on the crest of Bishop O’Collins. His time as Bishop of the Diocese saw a growth in Catholic parishes and numbers in the clergy as well as the completion of St Francis Xavier Cathedral. The Bishop’s Mitre on the House crest is used to symbolise leadership and victory.
Patrick (Silver)The Cross formed part of the crest of St Patrick’s College. The Shamrock is a small green three-leafed trefoil that resembles a clover. It is said that St Patrick used the Shamrock as a metaphor to explain the Holy Trinity to those he was converting to Christianity in Ireland.
Ryan (Green)Bishop Ryan’s crest has the Griffin (Gryphon) as one its primary elements. In antiquity the Griffin was considered a symbol of divine power and a guardian of the divine. The amalgamation of the lion and eagle denotes strength and leadership.

Stella (Purple)Stella Maris, Star of the Sea, is an ancient title for Our Lady, used by seafarers and others associated with the ocean. The title was used to emphasise Mary’s role as a sign of hope and as a guiding star for Christians. The Star was a dominant feature on the crest for Stella Maris College.
Thomas (Gold)The Cross is the most recognised symbol in the Catholic Church. The Cross depicted on Bishop Thomas’s crest is ornate and similar to the Pectoral Cross that he wore that held great significance for him. The Cross is a symbol of sacrifice and salvation.
Instrumental ProgramThe College offers students the opportunity to learn an instrument through its Instrumental Program. It is a fun and rewarding experience for all the students. Lessons are conducted throughout the school day on a rotation basis, to reduce impact on after school commitments. Lessons are available for complete beginners to the more advanced students.
Music lessons run for the whole year and students are encouraged to choose the Music (Instrumental) elective when choosing options. To participate in the program, Application forms are available on our website (www.ncc.wa.edu.au/instrumental-program)
Students will have the opportunity to participate in a number of ensembles including the Concert Band, Rock Band, Brass Ensemble and Choir. Each year, students involved in the Instrumental Program, participate in a Music Tour, visiting the local Catholic Primary Schools, as well as performing at school events.
Year 7 Special Instrumental ScholarshipThe Special Instrumental Scholarship (SIS) is offered to students who show potential for learning and excelling on a chosen music instrument. There are 25 scholarships offered each year. If selected, students are given the option to learn a band instrument or voice for free through the program.
Lost PropertyAll items brought to the College (Uniforms, lunch boxes, laptops etc.) should be clearly marked with the student’s name. Lost property is held in the Presentation Centre.
Media and Marketing ContentInformation for parents/guardians and studentsThe Media Consent information collected at the time of enrolment will authorise Nagle staff or their approved agent(s) to take and coordinate photographs, comments and film/video footage for educational and promotional purposes. These may be used for:• Media stories about student achievements• Printed publications (the College, Annual, Wavelength, advertising, brochures, display materials)• Electronic communication (such as our website, our social media pages, College Newsletter, Power Point presentations etc.)

How is my child’s media consent information recorded?Upon enrolling at the College, this information is recorded on the student’s electronic record, and if restrictions apply, this is noted in an all staff document.
How long is the consent valid?Consent is valid from receipt of the enrolment form and will remain until it is withdrawn in writing by the parent/guardian.
Parents’ and Friends’ AssociationNagle values the involvement of parents and friends of the College. One way to become involved and make a contribution to the College and its ongoing development is through the Parents’ and Friends’ Association (P & F).
The major objectives of the P & F are to work in close cooperation with the College in providing additional education resources for the students and to enhance the sense of community within the College.

Pastoral CareThe College cares for each student as a unique individual and takes an active interest in the development of each student enrolled at the College.
Aboriginal Liaison OfficerThe Aboriginal Liaison Officer and Aboriginal Teaching Assistant take particular interest in the pastoral care of our Aboriginal students and their families. Throughout the year, activities for events of significance are held such as Harmony Day, Reconciliation, NAIDOC.
CareersDiscussion about Careers can happen through staff in the Careers Office, located in Room 316.
College ChaplainThe College Chaplain provides students and staff with spiritual leadership. Through him, members of the College community have regular access to the Sacramental life of the Church.
A College Mass is held every Thursday morning in the Presentation Centre Chapel, commencing at 8:10am.
CounsellingThe College Counsellors can assist students, parents/guardians, and staff with any aspect of a student’s emotional, psychological, spiritual, behavioural and educational development and wellbeing.
Young people have a right to privacy and a safe environment to talk about their worries. Students are offered confidentiality unless otherwise discussed. As such, parents/guardians are not routinely contacted. However, if a student is considered at risk to themselves or others, parents/guardians will be contacted in consultation with the student. Generally, most students are comfortable for their parents/guardians to be involved.

Students can self-refer to the College Counsellors either in person, via the Counselling Online form on our website (www.ncc.wa.edu.au/counsellor-referral) or via the staff at the Presentation Centre. Parents/Guardians or staff members can also refer students to the College Counsellors, with the student’s consent.

Management of School BullyingIn order to achieve the ideal of our College Vision statement, we believe all students have the right to be free from the pain and humiliation which can be inflicted by those engaged in bullying. The environment in the classroom, the playground and in the boarding school should always be positive, safe, supportive, happy and bring out the best in both students and staff.
It is therefore the aim of everyone in our College community to identify and minimise any bullying behaviour to ensure the best educational environment for every student.

PhonesThe College accepts no responsibility for the loss of, or damage of mobile phones.
All students in Years 7 to 12 must cease using their mobile phones between 8:15am and 3:10pm whilst on College grounds. Phones must be locked in lockers throughout the school day and not be on a student’s person. We encourage parents/guardians not to contact students during school hours via their mobile phone.
A phone is available at Reception for students to use in an emergency.
PublicationsDaily NoticesThe Daily Notices are accessible via SEQTA. Staff place items in the Daily Notices regarding meetings, practices, events, sport or careers information, room changes and competitions. It is important students check the Daily Notices every day.
NewsletterThe Nagle Newsletter is emailed to families, students and staff each fortnight. It includes dates of upcoming events, articles from the Principal, staff and our community.
College AnnualThe College Annual is a keepsake of the College life and highlights across all Year levels. Students and staff are asked to contribute to the articles. One copy per family is provided at the start of the new school year.
WavelengthWavelength is an annual publication and a collaboration between the English and Arts Learning Areas. The magazine publishes some of the best and brightest work from Years 7 – 12. Students produce the cover design for the magazine, as well as the content which includes both written and visual works.

BursariesThrough the provision of bursaries, the College endeavours to build partnerships with those who experience the greatest challenge in participating in the life of the Nagle community. The importance of partnership is emphasised within the bursary process. There exists an expectation that parents/guardians will make some financial contribution to enhance opportunities for their child.

MADALAH ScholarshipsMadalah is a not-for-profit organisation that offers scholarships for Indigenous students, primarily from remote and regional communities, to attend leading Western Australian schools. Student AwardsPrincipal’s Honour ListThe Principal’s Award is presented in Semester 1 and Semester 2 to students in Years 7 to 10 who receive an A Grade in Religious Education and a State Grade of A in Mathematics, English, Humanities and Social Science, and Science. Students in Years 11 and 12 who receive A grades for four out of five (if VET) or five out of six courses become recipients of the Principal’s Award. All students who receive the Principal’s Award are recorded on the Principal’s Honour list.

Positive AffirmationsPositive Affirmations are positive mentions from staff recognising a student’s good manners, helpfulness, participation etc.
Positive Commendations - Goldies The College awards Certificates of Commendation – Goldies when a student achieves a significant result of an academic, sporting, or social/behavioural nature. These certificates are mailed home to parents/guardians during the year.
Year 7 Respect and Safety Awards The Respect and Safety Awards are given to students who consistently display respectful and safe behaviours in Year 7 Option classes. One award is given out in each Option class every rotation. At the end of each rotation, the Year group comes together to celebrate the award winners.
Student WithdrawalWe strongly encourage parents/guardians to speak with the relevant Director of Students or the Principal to discuss the decision to withdraw their child from the College.
When withdrawing a student, the College will require written notice confirming the name of the student and the date they will be finishing. Please email [email protected]
A Student Clearance Form is required to be completed prior to a student departing the College. This form will be emailed to parents/guardians once written notice of the departure is received. It can also be collect from either the Presentation Centre or Reception. The completed form must be returned to Reception in order for the student’s withdrawal to be finalised.

New Uniforms New uniforms can be purchased at Total Uniforms which is open Monday to Saturday, 2 Jensen Street, Geraldton.
Second-Hand UniformsThe College Second-Hand Uniform Shop is located at St Vincent de Paul Society on Durlacher Street, Geraldton. The College does accept donations of uniforms especially sports uniforms, and will distribute to those in need for a small cash return. Cash donations for the clothing will stay within the College to assist students in need. Should you wish to donate Nagle uniforms and shoes please ensure they are clean and in good condition before bringing to Reception or take directly to Vinnies.
Wearing the College UniformThe College uniform is the outward sign of membership of the Nagle Catholic College family. All our students have the right to wear this uniform, and to benefit from the good reputation which the College enjoys in the local community. Each of our students also has the corresponding responsibility to wear the uniform correctly and neatly and to behave in such a way that the community’s respect for the College is enhanced.
Students are expected to be well groomed at all times, and to show their self-respect and pride in their school by wearing the uniform correctly.
• The uniform is to be clean, neatly pressed and worn in its entirety at all times. Shoes are to be polished.

• An explanatory note from a parent, given to one of the Director of Students, is required if full school uniform is unable to be worn at any time. An explanatory note will not excuse breaches of the jewellery and hair regulations.
One of our tasks as an educational institution is to encourage our students to have a healthy and wholesome self-respect. An important way of doing this is to foster in all Nagle Catholic College students a real pride in the way they wear the uniform which represents their membership of the College as well as making a statement about their own pride in themselves.
This issue, because of its important, will be one which will receive much emphasis, and one in which the College will be seeking the active assistance of parents/guardians.
From 2020, a new College uniform will be introduced. There will be a three-year phase in period in which students can wear options for the existing or new uniform. From 2023, all students are required to be in the new uniform. Students have the choice as to which items from the uniform list they would like to wear to suit the climate and their individual preference.

School Bags
Backpacks are not permitted to be carried throughout the day by the students. These must be placed in the student’s locker at the start of the day. Students are permitted to carry a laptop case with a shoulder strap to their classes.
Valuables and Money
Students should not bring valuables or large amounts of money to the College. If money is sent for a specific purpose, it should be enclosed in an envelope, clearly marked with the student’s name and handed to Reception on arrival.
Vehicle Access on Campus
Parking on the College grounds is for staff and appointment visitors only. If parents/guardians drive their child to the College, they should drop them off in the bus drop off zone on Maitland Street or Sanford Street, and collect them from the same place. Parents/guardians should not enter the College grounds to drop a child off on the front drive or near the Administration Building.
If you are picking up your child from Sick Bay, or are visiting for an appointment, please use one of the designated visitor bays on the driveway.
