Children’s early learning experiences have

a profound effect on their development.

In Kindergarten, children’s receptivity to

new influences and capacity to learn are at their

peak. During this period, they acquire a variety

of important skills, knowledge, and attitudes that

will affect their ability to learn, their personal

development, their relationships with others, and

their future participation in society. Children today

begin to develop their skills, knowledge, and attitudes

in a variety of environments – in their homes, in

Kindergarten and in community settings. Positive

early experiences with school are of paramount

importance to young children. The learning they do

in Kindergarten provides the basis for the acquisition

of literacy skills, mathematics skills, and science

skills, and prepares them for successful learning

experiences in later grades Children come to school

with different backgrounds and experiences and

at different stages of development. To give each

student the best start possible, it is essential that

that Kindergarten programs provide a variety of

learning opportunities and experiences. At NAFA Arts

Kindergarten, our teachers are committed to provide

constructive and consistent learning experiences

that will build students’ confidence, encourage them

to continue to see learning as both enjoyable and

useful, and provide a strong foundation for their

future intellectual, physical, and social development

Facts

Page 18: NAFA Junior Art

Q1When does registration take place?

Once a year, in early Dec.

Q2What is the procedure like?Parents who have

successfully pre-registered on the mailing list will be sent a letter inviting them to register their child. Registration is on a first-come-first-serve basis on the actual day of registration.

Q3Is it guaranteed that those on the mailing list will

definitely get a place? No, but only those on the mailing list will be invited to register. Unfortunately, we have a limited number of places to offer. We have a projected intake capacity of 800, for which we maintain a mailing list of 1,200 names. After the completion of our registration process in December, this mailing list will no longer be valid, and we will start a new mailing list in the following Jan.

Q4How is the registration process organized?

All 1,200 names on the mailing list will be notified of our registration by post in November. They will be invited to come on designated dates to register. Registration is on a first-come first-served basis. Registration needs to be done in person. This is because places are

limited, and available timeslots and vacancies tend to vary a lot. As such, parents who are registering would need to be present in person to decide on alternative timeslots should their desired timeslot be unavailable, especially those who are registering for more than one child.

Q5How many vacancies are there? What are the

timeslots available? It is hard to tell now. Every year we consolidate the classes in mid-October. After the promotion of existing students, settlement of payments for the new semester, changing of class times and registration of siblings, we will be able to know the number of places available for every class at their respective time slots with greater accuracy, around mid-November.

Q6Any art background required for new students?

How are new students grouped? There is no need for art background. Upon enrolment, new students are placed in a class of their age group. Those who perform ex ceedingly well above the class standard may be placed in a class of higher standard, through teacher’s recommendation.

FACTS FACTS

Page 19: NAFA Junior Art

Q7Can you accommodate students with special

needs? We encourage parents to inform us clearly about their child’s special needs upon registration, especially since we do not hold pre-registration interviews with students. Children with special needs will be considered for admission on a case-by-case basis. We are glad to accept students with special needs, but because our classes are held in a large-group setting, we are unable to admit children who require one-to-one supervision.

Q8 What are JA art courses like?

Ours is a holistic, integrated curriculum aimed at promoting expression, appreciation and enjoyment of art for all children. We expose children and teens to different types of media and techniques, with a teaching focus

that corresponds with their age and abilities. Please refer to our brochure for the course outline of each level.

Q9What can my child learn? We provide a wide-

ranging program with exciting co-curricular activities, exposing students to a broad scope of visual experiences. Lessons will cover aspects such as drawing, painting, Chinese Ink painting, design, printmaking, 3D art and art appreciation.

Q10What is the teaching approach like?

Our experienced and creative teachers conduct the class with verbal and visual motivation, constructive guidance, with engaging demonstrations to generate spontaneous self-expression.

Q11 Will there be any exams? Not at all. An assessment

report on student’s performance in various areas will be issued at the end of each semester. These areas include technical competence, quality of ideas, interest expressed, and ability to work through problems.

Q12What is the class size?Depends on the age and

classroom space: 16 - 18 per class for Kinder Art; 16 - 20 for Children’s Art; 22 - 25 for Sec Art. Every class of K1 to P3 levels is conducted by an experienced instructor, and he or she may be aided by a teaching assistant.

Q13What is the duration of the course?

2 yrs for Kinderart from K1 to K2.6 yrs for Children Art from P1 to P6.2 yrs for Art for Lower Sec from Sec 1 to Sec 2.2 yrs for Art for Upper Sec from Sec 3 to Sec 4.

Q14What is the course fee?S$420 per semester (20

lessons) for Kinder & Children Art; S$260 per term (10 weeks) for Lower Sec, and S$380 per term for GCE’ O’ Level Art. Registration fee is S$32.10. All fees stated are inclusive of GST.

Q15Are materials provided? We provide some special

art and craft materials. Students are required to bring their own drawing block and colouring materials.
